Requesting the Ma Administration to Stop abusing the government power against its people

Since 1971, Taiwan's seat in the United Nations has been replaced by P.R.C. This has resulted in a difficult situation for the Taiwan government to have formal status to participate in many international affairs. However, in the 15th session of the UN Human Rights Council, it is surprised to hear the voices from Taiwanese people seeking supports from the international community to help Taiwanese people free up from the abuse of the government power.

Mr. Duncan Lee, a member of the UN NGO Association of World Citizens (AWC) from California, delivered a speech at the workshop “Promotion of the right of peoples to Peace” organized by the “International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL)” during the 15th session of the Human Rights Council. He mentioned that “We hope this is not making chaos in Taiwan, and that we hope such a case won’t spread around in this world.” After the video presentation, Mr. Rene Wadlow, the Chief Representative of AWC to UN Geneva, reiterates that the true story about “Tai Ji Men Unjust Tax case” happening in Taiwan is an example to highlight the importance of appropriately using the government power. Having exhausted all possible domestic remedies for 14 years, Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy still waits for justice and the correction of false tax administration upon them. Nevertheless, it is shocked to learn that about 100,000 people in Taiwan are banned to travel abroad while individuals have US$3,000 underpayment of Tax. The travel ban, which is one of the unjustified punishments on people, is against the basic right to life, liberty and security of person proclaimed in Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations in 1948.

Dr. Charles Graves, the chairperson of this workshop, from the Interfaith International says: “The government misuses its power in this case, and this is why the world citizens brought this case to the United Nations.” Every world citizen in this world, no matter it’s country is a UN member state or not, should equally enjoy the right defined by the UDHR article 22 ”everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is entitled to realization, through national effort and international co-operation and in accordance with the organization and resources of each State, of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality.” Everyone including government officials should abide by the Article 22 to have true justice prevailed on earth.
