Joel Berg, former Clinton Administration official and head of the NYC Coalition Against Hunger, and author of the new book, "All You Can Eat: How Hungry is America?," will be speaking in Asheville at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Downtown Books and News.

He will be joined by local anti-hunger leader, Leigh Pettus, of MANNA FoodBank

A central point of Berg's book is that much of the mainstream media gives the nation the false impression that we can end hunger in America through a few more charitable food drives.

In contrast, he demonstrates that the only real way to solve the problem – which affects 36.2 million Americans, including 12 million children – is for the government to take a serious role in fighting both hunger and the poverty that causes it.
