美籍華人作家 Yiyun Li 最近編輯出版已故英國作家 Graham Greene 的短篇小說集《Duel Duet》, 其中一篇《A Branch of the Service》裡一個英國情報員受命跟蹤調查可能是內間的叛徒, 主管和他討論案情時突然冒出一句「… A traitor can be as honest as you and me… He could be fighting for something greater than his country…」
我略知 Greene 的生平, 判斷「He could be fighting for something greater than his country」是他早年在英國情報局工作時的親身體驗 (藉機發洩所以沒頭沒尾? 整件事不是三言兩語可說清楚, 不在此討論).

愚忠確實多，根本沒必要，腐朽國家忠又何益？
