你的公司是國防工業，還是在中國有競爭對手？

如果你是黑人，在高科技公司工作，你覺得公司會擔心你把機密交給索馬利亞嗎？我是說那個只有民兵跟軍閥的國家。會不會因為你把機密賣過去，明年的今天索馬利亞就造出了山寨版的 F-22 戰鬥機？

事實很簡單。如果你的公司不是全世界唯一的，而是還有競爭對手，那麼就算你是黑人，你也可能把機密賣給隔壁鄰居的公司。美國公司的內賊把機密賣給美國公司，好像也有先例耶。

如果你自己沒辦法用各種方法取得信任，我沒辦法幫你。信任不是法律給你的。你要自己想辦法獲得。

oh one last point
If I have to beware of EVERY black man that comes my way then I would be paranoid and going crazy.  I live in a very poor neighborhood and a poor state. I once had a guy that came to my door and asked if they could fix the dent in my car ( that I would be cautious) however, I am not going to think my neighbor is going to rob me or that person is going to do something to harm me.  Of course I lock my doors  and windows when I am not home that is common sense, but I am not going to not greet my neighbors because they are big black/mexican/hispanic/whatever male that could hurt me.  That is the type of stereotype that is harmful towards a society. It is ok to be cautious but it is not ok  to purposely avoid someone in an alley because they look like they are going to harm you. That's crazy. 中文怎麽講。。。被害妄想症。。。 just like Gates...

I suppose you are right. But I have heard of so many cases here (mind you I listen to conservative talk radio locally they were talking about it here on the radio)  that there are many accomplished black individuals here in Albuquerque that gets pulled over constantly. There was this caller said he got pulled over driving his BMW M3. I suppose he is not supposed to be driving a BMW?

另外我談得是您的下一代, 土生土長的ABC, 還被人問 Where are you really from? 他/她會怎麼想?

順便告訴您, 我選擇不住在美國的原因很多, 但其中一個是想到未來棒球比賽時, 我幫中華隊加油, 我的ABC兒子幫美國隊加油(他還常會被人問 Where are you really from?), 就打消了住在美國的念頭.

還有, 您都不跟陌生人打招呼? 連公園裡散步的老太太都不打招呼? 敢問您住在美國哪裡? 該叫亞裔新移民都搬到您那兒去.

太久了。。
我忘了。。。。

There are many cops profile black men for crimes. There are many instances where cops pull black men over for just looking black.  Yes I agree Gates is over priviledged self absorbed asshole. But why would the cop ask him to show his identity in his own home.  If Gates was a white guy, the cop would have just asked him "do you live here sir?" if he said yes they would have let him go. But they insist on identification why? in his own front lawn!
I admit Gates's attitude was bad and was warrant an ass kicking BUT BUT if you were suffering from a jet lag... cops are banging on your door and then demanded to see his identification wouldn't you be mad? I would.

Both sides are at fault

Professor Gates over reacted that is his own damn fault.  President Obama mispoke but he just said "the cop was STUPID" and sticking up for his friend like a friend would without THINKING about his current position. The cop is not totally faultless like you are saying.  Arresting someone based on a stereotype pisses people off. In the telephone call from the neighbor she never mentioned a black man, he just ASSUMED.  So really, who should really apologize? IF anyone has to apologize  I think all of them should. The president did apologize and said he mispoke and invited the Seargent and the Professor for a beer, that was a way for all parties to take a step back and save face.   We all have stereotypes but it is how we react to them that makes us a racist.  Let it go! Lets focus on healthcare!  I want a healthcare reform but I don't want to spend and spend and spend...... Where's the good ole' Senator Ted when we all need him the most.

P.S You were right about the economy... I was wrong...

台灣發生的事也會在美國重演?

阿卡迪亞擔心歐巴馬總統或其他長官會對克羅里施加壓力，要他道歉或是去白宮喝那杯鴻門啤酒，可能是看多了上次台灣小海關關員不肯為立委妥協，被叫去立法院質詢，以為台灣發生的事也會在美國重演。

你這個說法有時候可行，也有時候不可行。

例如只要我夠壯，我看到一個有威脅性的人過來，打招呼的結果就是會形成某種嚇阻作用。打招呼其實就是說「老兄，我看到你了，別動歪腦筋」。美國很多商店看到客人近來會主動打招呼，就是這個意思。一方面是做生意的禮貌，另一方面也是軟性警告。

如果我是個大美女，打招呼的結果就可能適得其反。這時候說 Have a good one 也許就不太聰明。

你把 Chinese 改成 Jewish。China 改成 Israel。誰敢這樣講？誰敢皺眉頭？

中國人在美國算是中上階級，很多人表現比白人好。下對上的歧視，跟上對下的歧視，其實是完全不同的。

下對上的歧視通常就是眼紅。你有漂亮老婆，我只有五根手指頭。你有 Malibu 的花園洋房，我住在 Mobile, AL 的 shotgun house。就算你不是在美國，而是在印尼，你也一樣受到歧視。你以為印尼人、馬來人不歧視華人嗎？

至於上對下的歧視，老實講，有時候這是健康的。因為我不想當像那樣的人，我會比他們表現更好。這是孔子講的「見不賢而內自省」。

歧視並不完全是錯的。如果你能說出歧視的理由，而且這個理由確實是造成失敗的原因，有一點點歧視，剛好可以讓你避免犯別人的錯。我為什麼不能歧視賭鬼、酒鬼、毒蟲？但如果我歧視的是比我成功的人，我很可能就是挖自己的墳墓。

現在中國還不夠強，不能壟斷人文，不能逼迫別人接受中國的價值觀。不然在海外當個成功的中國人，會比較輕鬆一點。誰敢批評猶太人啊？
