What is your retirement plan?

I have come across a very good article with regard to the people depending on pension
after retirement in Japan. I think that all retirement, no matter where you live in the
world, is not easy. Here in the U.S. if you want to spend ideal retirement you better
prepare $5,000 monthly spending in addition to your house paid off before that.
Otherwise, it would be a very tight budgeted living.

Both of us, my wife and I, are already in the process of living a retirement life. In fact,
we just could not afford of retirement. Mari has receiving Japanese National pension
about Yen 55,000 while I collecting American social security about less than
$250.00(because of less years in paying the social security.) a month. Therefore,
you cannot call it a retirement life. In order to main our life style, we have to work
our way as long as our age and energy permits.

The good thing with us is that we have motel with all mortgage paid off. I figure we
should be all right for a certain period. We will not retire unless we can afford a
comfortable living. No matter what job you are having, you'd better start your
financial planning early. My friend at age 63 is planning to retire at age 68 and
if every thing goes as planed he would have monthly income above $5,000.
What is your retirement plan?

Retirement...
2007/02/14 23:49
is still more than 20 years away for me and my husband, but we are seriously thinking about how to save money. The Germans who have retired by now are enjoying the generous pension scheme, but the younger generations are working very hard to keep up with the pension payments for the retired, among other social security contributions. I don't think there will be any end of work for many future pensioners.

Not easy upon retirement.

The aging process requires followings:

1. Medicine costs us about $5~6,000 a year for both of us which is not covered by medicare.
2. Transportation like fuel car maintainence will require about $4,000 a year.
3.  Pay Dr. expenses about $1,200 a year which is patient's share.
4. Utilities in North CA will cost about $5,000 a year for heating cooling and electric bill.
5. Living expenses, including food on the table pets take care eating out cosmetic etc amount
   to $10,000 a year.

The above is under the condition that your house and car are paid off. In Japan, I was told that
average retirement expense is about Yen 5,000,000 for the couple. don't forget. You are still
eligible to pay your property tax. If you do not have a house. The rental will cost you one
third of the income. Try to calculate your self. Will it be easy?

That is why House Representative and senator needs $100,000 a year to live a good life.

about retirement life
2007/02/02 06:12

It really scare me to be retired. I should make up a plan but not yet.

I don't understand why people expect that high income to be enough for a retirement life.

I don't  even spend $2000 a month now, why after retire I will need to spend $5000?

I know you add up a lot of medical expense, but we should have medical insurance to cover   it.

I wonder, I don't have much knowledge about retirement life.
