Rafael Nadal Parera was born in 1986 on the Spanish island of Mallorca. While his parents weren’ t athletes, his uncle Miguel Ángel Nadal once played on the Spanish national soccer team. But it was his other uncle Toni who got him started in tennis, which Rafael would later master. Toni started coaching young Rafael at age three. Only five years later, Rafael won his first tournament. Although he was talented as both a tennis player and a soccer player, he began to focus more on tennis.
