The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a food recall involving "approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken nuggets products" produced for Applegate Farms, by Perdue Foods LLC, according to a statement.

The chicken nuggets "may be contaminated with extraneous plastic materials," the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said in a news release.

The effected nuggets are the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, produced on Sept. 28, 2015. The 8-ounce boxed packages contain approximately 18 pieces of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets" with Best Before Date 09/27/2016. The products subject to recall bear establishment number "P-2617" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas, the statement says.

The problem was discovered when Perdue Foods LLC received consumer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, according to the statement.

There have been no reports of adverse reactions because of consumption of these products, according to the statement.

It also says, "consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

A statement on Applegate Natural & Organic Meats' website says no other products are affected by this recall.

(repost) Recall Alert: You'll Want to Toss These Popular Chicken Nuggets — Immediately!

March 6, 2016

The recalled products include eight-ounce boxed packages of approximately 18 pieces of "Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets" that have a best-by date of Sept. 27, 2016. The boxes also contain an "establishment number" of P-2617 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

Though there have been no reports of adverse reactions by children who consumed the nuggets, Perdue announced the recall after receiving customer complaints of "small, solid, clear plastic" inside the actual nuggets.

Applegate Farms and Purdue are urging consumers who have the affected boxes to throw them out or return them to their place of purchase. Anyone with additional concerns should reach out to the company directly at help@applegate.com.

The company says it has identified the source of the problem — "the final stages of mixing and producing the product" — and it "will take all the necessary corrective actions to eliminate the problem."

Because no one expects to find plastic in their natural chicken nuggets.

(repost) 4,500 Pounds of Perdue Chicken Nugget Recalled Because Of Plastic Pieces Found Inside

That's the sound of a million kids crying out in despair.

Perdue Foods LLC has recalled 4,530 pounds of chicken nuggets that the company produces for Applegate Farms. The problem: the nuggets may have been contaminated with small pieces of plastic, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety And Inspection Service (FSIS).

The company received customer complaints of small, solid, clear plastic inside the nuggets—and immediately issued the recall. The product specifically affected is the 8-oz. boxed package of Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets (which holds about 18 pieces), which were produced on September 28, 2015 and has the Best Before Date of 09/27/2016.

The product should also have the establishment number of "P-2617" inside
the USDA mark of inspection. The items can be found in Florida, Georgia,
Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas.

There have been no confirmed reports of injuries or illnesses, but the USDA urges anyone who has this product to throw them away or return them to the point of purchase.

Oddly, this isn't the first time that the company has had this problem. A similar recall was issued in August 2014 because of a threat of plastic pieces, but was a considered a low health risk at the time.

For more information, visit the USDA's official review of the problem.
