On Monday, December 08, 2014. this lesson was my homework doing in Taiwan. part-1This time of year, Becca becomes overwhelmed with all of the options for gift-giving and celebrating the holidays. Which is better: buying gifts all at once or waiting for the best deals? What will be the most efficient use of her time and money? What is the best event to attend: the Crisis Center Soup and Bread Dinner and Silent Auction, the Unitarian Universalist Craft Sale, or the Scott and Frankenberger Annual Pottery Sale? For today she may decide to take the path of least resistence and attend all three events, but she will travel no farther than downtown for her most favorite holiday event: Dickens of a Christmas on Saturday. 1. overwhelmed-adj.extreme(極度的,非常的),engulf-v.捲入,吸進,submerge-(使)沉入水中,捲入深淵,(潛水艇)潛舫,overcome-v.打勝,克服,overpower-v.壓倒,打敗 2. option-n.choice(選擇) crisis-crisis-KK [ˋkraɪsɪs] DJ [ˋkraisis] 危機;緊急關頭;轉折點- -urgent KK [ˋɝdʒənt] DJ [ˋə:dʒənt] 緊急的,急迫的n.urgent problem(急切地問題)_ 3. deals--經營;交易-n.good buys(好交易),bargains--bargain KK [ˋbɑrgɪn] DJ [ˋbɑ:gin] 協議[(+with)][+that] 4.efficient-adj.有效率,effective,productive without waste of time or energy.--有效,productive 有效的,生產沒有時間和精力浪費 5. Transition Words and Phrases.轉變,變遷;變革[(+from/to)] Transition Words and Phrases This structured list of commonly used English transition words — approximately 200, can be considered as quasi complete. It can be used (by students and teachers alike) to find the right expression. English transition words are essential, since they not only connect ideas, but also can introduce a certain shift, contrast or opposition, emphasis or agreement, purpose, result or conclusion, etc. in the line of argument. The transition words and phrases have been assigned only once to somewhat artificial categories, although some words belong to more than one category. There is some overlapping with preposition and postposition, but for the purpose of clarity and completeness of this concise guide, I did not differentiate. 1. Agreement / Addition / Similarity. 協議/添加/相似The transition words like also, in addition, and, likewise, add information, reinforce ideas, and express agreement with preceding material.
2. Opposition / Limitation / Contradiction. 反對派/限制/矛盾Transition phrases like but, rather and or, express that there is evidence to the contrary or point out alternatives, and thus introduce a change the line of reasoning (contrast).
3. Cause / Condition / Purpose. 原因/條件/用途These transitional phrases present specific conditions or intentions.
4. Examples / Support / Emphasis. 例子/支持/重點These transitional devices (like especially) are used to introduce examples as support, to indicate importance or as an illustration so that an idea is cued to the reader.
5. Effect / Consequence / Result. 影響/後果/結果Some of these transition words (thus, then, accordingly, consequently, therefore, henceforth) are time words that are used to show that after a particular time there was a consequence or an effect.Note that for and because are placed before the cause/reason. The other devices are placed before the consequences or effects.
6. Conclusion / Summary / Restatement. 結論/概述/重述These transition words and phrases conclude, summarize and / or restate ideas, or indicate a final general statement. Also some words (like therefore) from the Effect / Consequence category can be used to summarize.
7. Time / Chronology / Sequence. 時間/年表/序列These transitional words (like finally) have the function of limiting, restricting, and defining time. They can be used either alone or as part of adverbial expressions
Many transition words in the time category (consequently; first, second, third; further; hence; henceforth; since; then, when; and whenever) have other uses. Except for the numbers (first, second, third) and further they add a meaning of time in expressing conditions, qualifications, or reasons. The numbers are also used to add information or list examples. Further is also used to indicate added space as well as added time. 8. Space / Location / Place. 空間/位置/地點These transition words are often used as part of adverbial expressions and have the function to restrict, limit or qualify space. Quite a few of these are also found in the Time category and can be used to describe spatial order or spatial reference.
And, but, for, nor, or, so, and yet — are the seven coordinating conjunctions. To remember them, the acronym FANBOYS can be used. 有七個並列連詞。 記住它們的首字母縮寫粉絲們可以用 F = for A = and N = nor B = but O = or Y = yet S = so |
