When I was in college a professor of archeology told us that history is documented material and archeological findings can help add to prove those documented true or false. Anyway, what we have learned from documented history are just a limited part of human activities. So, what is the use of history? In addition to the traditional argument, learning from the past and envisioning to the future, I think the main purpose of history is to build up a national spirit, which should be on the basis of truth. But are all documented historical events true or reliable? Does the genuineness of history really matter in the name of national spirit? Attached below is a brilliant debate on the subject between a professor of Peking University and an wealthy antique collector. https://www.ixigua.com/7152813412307698208?logTag=8c5c85dd7c5cb740c9b2 |
