In the film "無問西東" that I introduced to you yesterday, there was a character Shen(played by 王力宏), the only child from a wealthy family and a student of Tsinghua University(then Southwestern United University during Resistence-against-Japan War), who gave up his academic career and joined the air force.  Now you know what had happened to him in the story; in that time, anyone joining army, especially air force meant he was going to die determinedly.

The prototype of Shen is widely deemed as Shen Chonghui(沈崇誨), who had been a Tsinghua graduate in EE before the War broke out, but he gave up his promising future and joined the air force.  Needless to say, he sacrificed his life in the incipient stage of the War in Shanghai.  Previously in the reporting, as well as in the textbook from which I learned his story during primary school, he was illustrated as a suicide fighter to perish together with a Jap battleship.  His story was exaggerated; nevertheless, that would have not reduced his being as a martyr in splendor a bit.

I am not sure Shen Chonghui was from a wealthy family or not, but he was definitely given birth to a family of distinguished pedigree.  (His father later was one of the judges of supreme court, and was the formal witness to the oath of Chiang Kai-shek taken as being inducted into the 1st president of ROC.)  Obviously, he had much better qualification to be a pilot than the majority of other ordinary Chineses then, who did not receive much education to do the jobs of qualifed pilots, not to mention most of them might have night blindness due to long-term malnutrition.

PS  Some evidences showed that most of the diehard Taidu advocates are from landlord families in the time of Jap occupation.  Well, will you take Shen as your model to copy?
