近代中文譯名之源

I talked about many times in my previous writings the ardent "borrowing" on the translation of foreign terms from Japanese Chinese during late 19th century and early 20th century.  In that time, especially subsequent to the successful Meiji Restoration in Japan and China inflicted a humiliating defeat in the first Sino-Japanese War in 1894, Japan became the model to copy for some Chinese intellectuals, who had a voracious and undiscriminating "appetite" for new knowledge from West via Japan. 

But that definitely was not a one-sided borrowing.  After all, whatever new translated terms Japan coined were on the base of Chinese characters in the first place.  In other words, the process of borrowing was just a part of cross-fertilization between genuine Chinese and Japanese Chinese throughout history.  Please see an indepth analysis attached below:
