膠著 vs.焦灼

Subject two terms pronounciate exactly the same, but denote different meaning.  膠著 means a state of deadlock, while 焦灼 means a state of anxiety perhaps out of deadlock.  Maybe that is why I always read from Mainland media or netizens who often use 焦灼 to capture the feeling when people meet a situation pending final decision, especially the ball games that are going on in close balance.

Certainly we can use 膠著 to describe a game that is well-matched in contest, but it does not necessarily connote the anxiety of spectators.
