海上生明月,天涯共此時。 A bright moon emerges from the horizon of the misty sea; you and I now enjoy the same moonlit night at different places.
The beloved ones would grudge the seemingly endless time of the night, which makes them think of each other all night long.
滅燭憐光滿,披衣覺露滋。 The light shines even brighter from the full moon when I blow the candle out, and the gown I am in seems moistened with nocturnal dews.
Though I have a handful of moonbeams myself, I couldn’t send them to you. So, we’d better go to bed, and let’s wish in dreams we could meet again soon. P.S. My translation can hardly be an English poem, not even close. I just express my thought to capture my sentiments on the original, particularly in this Mid-Autumn Festival. Happy holidays!
