Time was when in middle school, I was one of the students who repaired to Guling Street after school to "shop around" the stalls of preowned books.  Once I did buy two English books: Francis Bacons analects and Henry David Thoreaus "Walden; or, life in the woods".  To be honest with you, I hadnt finished reading them all till I lost them; however, I did remember I had read one of Bacons work: On Studies.
