憂傷像陣無休的雨 打在我的心頭。 痛苦中的人扭動嘶喊 天明時會回復平靜； 憂傷卻無盈無缺， 無止無始。 大家穿扮進城去； 我在椅上坐。 一切念頭遲緩又混雜： 或站起或坐下 瑣瑣碎碎，或我穿的 那件衫或那雙鞋。 Millay 的原詩如下： Sorrow Sorrow like a ceaseless rain Beats upon my heart. People twist and scream in pain,— Dawn will find them still again; This has neither wax nor wane, Neither stop nor start. People dress and go to town; I sit in my chair.
