How will Margaret Thatcher be remembered by the people of Scotland? Political leaders in Scotland, where Margaret Thatcher's legacy is ingrained in the national psyche, put aside differences to mark her death on Monday. First Minister Alex Salmond conceded she was a strong leader despite routinely calling into question the impact her policies had. Labour, like the SNP, often defines its beliefs against those of the Tories and the former prime minister in particular but Scottish Labour Leader Johann Lamont offered her "deepest condolences" to the former Prime Minister's family. Willie Rennie, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, noted Baroness Thatcher's role in prompting him into politics while Ruth Davidson, in a glowing tribute, said she was an inspiration to women. Scotland Tonight discussed the legacy of Britain's first female Prime Minister with dedicated Thatcherite and former Scottish Secretary Lord Michael Forsyth, Scottish editor of The Daily Telegraph Alan Cochrane, former Labour MP Lord George Foulkes, SNP MSP Joan McAlpine and former STV political editor Colin Mackay.
