Why a Scientific World

What will you do if something that happens to you contradicts your common sense? If you experience something that you think it is a miraculous event — according to your scientific knowledge — and you have a chance to make a proof of it (such as, you are able to take a picture of or videotape it or otherwise verify it with some other witnesses), what will you do next? Perhaps you will tell the media to announce it to the public, or you will make an electronic file about it and put it on the Internet so that the entire world can access it. It should be remarkable news.
There are more than six billion people in the world. Each day, if one person out of a million experiences a supernatural event, and if in one out of a hundred such events, someone produces concrete evidence and records it as assumed in the previous paragraph, then there should be more than sixty supernatural reports every day. However, this is not the case. According to our analysis, we know that things contradictory to our scientific knowledge are very rare, if any, in our world. The frequency of miraculous events in the world is far less than the above estimation. It conforms to our experience that most of our friends have never publicly declared any supernatural encounter. Our world satisfies UGP.
Scientific laws relentlessly govern this world. When we are expecting a miracle, commonly there is none. When conditions are satisfied for a disaster to happen, it cruelly happens. In making a wrong decision, a person is responsible for the consequences, no matter how painful they are. A small error in a complex machine may cause the entire system to break down. Things in the past can’t be altered. Dead people can’t come back to life.
Despite some terrible consequences, God probably decided to create a universe rigorously obeying a set of scientific laws before the beginning. Only a child of such a universe may have a rational mind. Only a civilization of such a universe may have abundant heritage of scientific knowledge. Besides, it symbolizes many things about God.
The fact that our universe operates faithfully according the rules exemplifies some qualities of its creator. Our God is also a faithful God. People are lying and changing, but God is truthful and steadfast. The records in the Bible are true. His promises in the Bible will come true.
The rules of the universe are so beautiful, delicate, and complex. All scientists in the world combined can’t understand completely how the universe works. The creator of this universe must have immeasurable wisdom far beyond our understanding. We are just creatures with a little thinking ability, and we should humble ourselves in front of the grand universe and its designer.
An ordered world gives us a hint of how to know God. We learn rational thinking through our everyday experiences, because the place in which we live is organized and governed by systematic rules. The ability of rational thinking is one of the tools with which to understand Christianity, the knowledge of God. The Bible is a work of consistency, and it conveys its messages in a reasonable way. Actually, it is an ideal textbook for logical reasoning, which has been used for generations. The people who ignited the fire of the Scientific Revolution were Christian scholars.
An ordered world gives us a hint of how to work for God. We developed the scientific method during the studies of our universe. The scientific method is the essence of our intelligence, and it is useful in all areas of the world. Especially, it is useful for saving souls. When world population grows exponentially, new technologies and new strategies should be applied for the evangelical movement.
The above are some reasons suggested in this book as to why we have a scientific world. The main point of this book is not to solve the disputes between science and religion, nor to establish a compromise between them. The goal of this book is to assert that science is only one of many human activities and it’s not comparable to the knowledge of God. It’s God who created this scientific world and we can only understand a small portion of his wisdom by exploring the world using the scientific method. There should be no contradiction between science and religion, but only the contradiction that human beings, having made such achievements in science, often refuse to believe in God.
