The One-Two Punch
Boxers of all colors and countries have made names for themselves in the ring. Men have not had all the glory in boxing, however. Women have shone in the sport as well. The first boxing events for women were in the 1720s. The fights had basically no rules and ended with severe injuries. Women's boxing wasn't recognized and legal in many places until the 1970s. Before then, it was seen as entertainment instead of a sport. Barbara Buttrick was one of the first and most famous female boxers. She was known for her mean attitude and fought anyone brave enough to challenge her. Buttrick proved that women also have what it takes in one of the roughest sports of all—boxing.
