S：Will you just look at how beautiful the views are here?

S：You don't look so good. How are you holding up?
J：I'm not. I'm really dizzy, have a bad headache, and feel like throwing up.
S：That doesn't sound right. Let's go ask the guide to get you some medical help.
(They go up to the tour guide and explain what is wrong.)
G：Jerry is in a really bad state, but I've seen these symptoms before.
S：I'm really worried. What's going on with him?
G：He's got a case of altitude sickness. It happens a lot because we increased our elevation pretty quickly on the train ride here.
J：I think I need to sit down.

高山症，或稱高地綜合症、高山反應、高原反應, 英文：Altitude sickness, acute mountain sickness (AMS) 是人體在高海拔狀態由於氧氣濃度降低而出現的急性病理變化表現。它通常出現在海拔2500公尺以上（約8000英呎）。高山症可以發展成肺水腫（HAPE, high altitude pulmonary oedema）和腦水腫（HACE, high altitude cerebral oedema），嚴重時可致死。
另一個較稀少的高海拔相關疾患，是因為慢性處於高山中而形成慢性高山症，又稱蒙格氏病 (Monge's disease)。
尼泊爾聯邦民主共和國是位於南亞喜馬拉雅山中段南麓的內陸國家，版圖呈長方形，略呈西北-東南走向，東西寬約850公里，南北寬約200公里，北部與中國接壤，西、南、東三面為印度所環繞。地勢北高南低，北部為高山，中部為山區和河谷，南部是平原，相對高度差之大為世界所罕見。最高點為北部中尼邊境上的珠穆朗瑪峰（尼方稱薩加瑪塔峰），同時也是世界最高峰。另外，全球14座八千米以上山峰中有8座位於尼泊爾境內及其邊境上。
