I have to say, while I respect your own view, I don't agree with you at all.
This column basically has two points:
1. Ma is honorable and decent, but honorable and decent won't make a good leader;
2. Hsieh is like a fox, he can adapt and adjust; therefore, he is a better leader.
There are many examples indicating your first point is false. Take George Washington as an example; George Washington was an honorable and decent man, he laid the corner stone and set up the example for others; up to this time, the United States is still benefited from him. In fact, you need honorable and decent people to put you on the right track. I am not saying Ma is that good or what so ever, just don't agree with your conclusion.
As for Hsieh, I do think he is smart. But a man with so many scandals surrounding him, even he can come out untouched and only he subordinates are jailed; that makes me in doubt of his leadership, capability and personality; do you really want a leader who causes ( more or less ) troubles then runs away and others have be responsible for those troubles? He has street smart but no wisdom. Moreover, he has A-Bien riding on him and showing no sign of shaking A-Bien off his back. Haven't seen a fox can carry heavy weight on his back and still run fast, he will be lucky if he is still breathing.
Just my two pennies.
BTW, I was born and raised in Taiwan and I love Taiwan. - an unfortunate clause I have to make so that I won't be marked as a traitor.
