Dessert的意思是甜點；
the desert的意思是高溫、乾燥及充滿沙土。

accept & except

accept的意思是接受或同意某事物。
except的意思是除...以外。

there & their

前者為地方副詞而後者為代名詞。例如： 「Their house is over there.」

principle & principal

Principles的意思是信念、觀念或基本原理；而principal的意思是一所學校前面或主要事情。

advice & advise

前者為名詞而後者為動詞。所以你可以這樣說：「advise someone by giving them good advice.」

borrow & lend

To borrow的意思是在借與的情況下收取某東西；而 to lend的意思是在借與的情況下給予某東西。

To assure某人欲使排除疑惑或使某人安心；而ensure意指確定某事發生。例如：「I assured him that you would be there, so please ensure that you get to the meeting on time.」
