海蓮娜在踏入這木屋之前就可以聞到森林的氣味。當她繼續往內堂走，進入寢房，木頭的香氣越來越濃郁。所有的木頭佔據了房間一半的空間。莫理斯走在海蓮娜後面，他可以聞到她的髮香。順著她柔緻的頸子服貼著鑲著兩層蕾絲的領子。莫理斯領著海蓮娜的手觸摸每一個木頭。海蓮娜輕輕的將眼睛閉上，讓木頭的香氣更能駐記在腦海裡。有的散發出辛辣與狂野，有的充滿煙燻，有的聞起來十分神秘。她印象特別深刻的是其中的一個木頭散發著鮮血與海洋的氣味。海蓮娜無法控制自己，她必須一再地來這裡，為了複習木頭的氣味，為了感受莫理斯溫暖的擁抱和他溫柔的親吻。

Helena smells the forest while she steps into the cottage. The aroma of wood becomes stronger and stronger as she walks across the hall and enters the sleeping chamber. The wood occupies half of the chamber. Maurice follows her one step behind. He smells her hair. Her delicate neck goes along a banded collar, embellished with two layers of lace. He holds Helena’s hands to touch each piece of wood. She closes her eyes and smelled each piece. Some smell spicy and wild. Some are smoky and mysterious. She cannot forget a piece that smells like blood and sea. She can not help to come to Maurice cottage again and again for feeling and smelling wood, and to feel Maurice hold her in his warm arms and his gentle kisses.
