The Mind Is Lost and Mired in Mud
一切為心識－－我們的心靈世界，是在黑暗中？還是在光明？是在清淨或者是在污濁，這都是一念心。 Everything is in the mind. Is our mental state in darkness, or in the light? Is it pure or is it turbid? This is all in our minds. 所以這一念心，我若是沒顧好，心若去受到污濁，那就是成為心靈冥途，方向就迷失了，深陷泥沼不能自拔了！ So, if we do not take good care of our thoughts, our minds become defiled and lost. We will lose our direction and be mired in mud without means to extract ourselves. 「求救不得無人能助，劇苦叫喚無人能聞。」這是要對大家說，我們的心假使黑暗，如此我們的方向全都會迷失，世間處處是陷阱。就像是在那個原始山林，處處都是險路；說不定在那個山林中有溪－－是什麼溪呢？是泥沼，完全都是泥土，就是黏土。長期累月，無論什麼東西踏進泥土中，慢慢就一直陷進去；何況說若是人踩入泥沼裡中，就是這樣一直陷進去。 "We beg to be saved, but no one can help us." We yell in great pain, but no one can hear us. This tells us that if our minds are in darkness, then we completely lose our direction. The world is filled with traps. It is like a primeval forest, with dangerous paths everywhere. Maybe there is a stream in the forest. What kind of stream? It is a quagmire. It is filled with mud and clay. Over the years, no matter what steps into this soil, it slowly and continuously sinks. If people step into this mire, they will just keep sinking. 這和水不同，人若是跌下水中，只要懂水性的人趕快游，去把他救上來，還有希望。泥沼，任何一個人都不可能！凡是接近的人，必定都一樣陷下去。這種深陷泥沼，就是因為他的路偏差去了，不知道路的方向，所以才會去陷入泥沼。不只是不能自拔，還求救不得，一直叫一直叫，人卻一直陷下去沉下去。如何的求救，都沒有人能夠幫助他？因為每個人走到哪裡，都是和他一樣，也同樣會被黏下去，同樣會一直一直沉下去。所以到了這種時候，就算有人要救他也是不可能。 This is different from water. If we fall into water, a person who knows how to swim can rescue us. There is hope But that is impossible in the quagmire. Anyone who gets close will also start sinking. This happens because we strayed from the path. We did not know the direction of the path, so we fell into a mud pit. Not only can we not extricate ourselves, we cannot be saved by others. 這種的形容很辛苦，真的是劇苦叫喚無人能聞。尤其真的是很哀叫，人一直一直被黏住，一直往下沉下去了。有看到的人，無法幫助；或者是在其他的苦難，心靈已經不斷叫喚，說不定沒有人看到，也沒有人聽到，儘管他怎麼叫都沒辦法。 We yell and yell, but we keep sinking further. No matter how we cry for help, no one can do a thing because anyone who approaches will also become stuck and start sinking. So at this juncture, even if someone wants to save us, it is impossible. This description sounds very painful. Indeed, we call out in intense pain, but no one hears. We wail as we remain stuck and keep sinking. The people we see cannot help us. Or, if we are suffering from some difficulty, our minds are yelling constantly, but perhaps no one can see or hear us. We keep yelling, but to no avail. 為什麼這麼苦？為什麼怎麼會人家沒有辦法可以救他？為什麼你內心的掙扎，那個心聲的叫喚沒有人聽得到？這都是心靈地獄！ Why is this so painful? Why? Why can't anyone save us? Why can't anyone hear our inner struggles, our mental cries? This is a spiritual hell. 有時候我們會說：「有事情說出來，我也能夠輔導你。」他也會回答：「其實我都知道，我自己也都知道，你不必說，我都知道！」道理都是知道，所以我自己無法可跳脫出來－－這就是明知前面是黑暗的，有人告訴我們：「那是黑暗的路，那是錯的，那個地方很危險。」那明明就知道，他無法自己回頭回來，還是由不得自己向前走。儘管有這個聲音告訴他：「不能去啊！」他還是向前走。這就是我們人的心理，真的是明知故犯。 Sometimes people say, "Tell me what is on your mind. Then I can help you." But we already know what to do. We know it before they say anything. We know all the principles; we just cannot pull ourselves out of it. We clearly know there is darkness ahead. Others tell us, "That road is dark" "That direction is wrong. That place is dangerous." We clearly know, but we cannot turn back. We walk forward despite ourselves, even though a voice tells us, "Don't go!" We still walk forward. This is our human mentality. We knowingly commit wrongs. 所以人生苦在哪裡呢？苦在這種明知故犯！不能自愛！這種的人就不能自拔。我們自己不能自愛，自己要走入那個黑暗或者是泥沼中，那樣一步一步接近，這種不能自拔，這是明知故犯。 So where is suffering found? In these wrongs we knowingly commit, in our lack of self-respect. If we do this, we cannot help ourselves. If we do not know how to respect ourselves, we approach the darkness or the mire with each step. We cannot help ourselves. Thus, we knowingly do wrong. 聰明的人大部分都知道，就是全都知道，人家輔導他，他就是無法接受；反而若是不知道的人，「我過去怎麼沒有聽過這種話，我現在知道了，我要趕快改」，他就及時回頭。 Smart people basically know this. They think they know it all, so they cannot accept guidance from others. People who do not know say, "Why haven't I heard this before? Now that I know, I will change." They will turn back before it is too late. 這就是我們人叫做所知障，知道很多，才會去明知故犯。 This is what we call Hindrance by Knowledge. We knowingly do wrong because we know so much.  心靈冥途方向迷失 On a dark mental journey, we lose our direction. We cannot extricate ourselves from the mire. We beg to be saved, but no one can help us. We yell in intense pain, but no one hears us. Like falling into Hell, we suffer unbearably. 這種心靈的冥途，黑暗的路，方向自然一直迷失掉。這一迷失了，到了最後，即使你的內心非常的掙扎，知道錯了，但是不能自拔。儘管一直在叫喚，他叫不出聲音，別人聽不到，這種真的是心靈地獄苦不堪。 Then on this dark journey of the mind,on this dark road, we naturally lose our direction. Once we get lost, even if we experience great inner struggles and know this is wrong, we cannot correct ourselves. Even if we keep yelling, we make no sound, so others cannot hear us. This kind of mental hell is unbearably painful. 所以說是－－「靈冥途方向迷失，深陷泥沼不能自拔；求救不得無人能助，劇苦叫喚無人能聞。如墮地獄苦不堪言！」 "On a dark mental journey, we lose our direction. We cannot extricate ourselves from the mire. We beg to be saved, but no one can help us. We yell in intense pain, but no one hears us. Like falling into Hell, we suffer unbearably." 所以我們大家要把心顧好。 So, let us all take good care of our hearts. 我們人人心中都有一盞，非常明朗透徹的心燈；不要讓我們這盞心燈，自己受到無明的風把我們吹熄。我們若是心燈被無明的風吹熄，即使你這盞燈還在心裡，但是那個光明已經是失效了；因為你的內心，一直都是有無明的風，你若是點亮，馬上就又再吹熄了。這也同樣在我們的一念心！ In each of our hearts there is a very bright and penetrating inner light. Do not let this inner light be extinguished by a wind of ignorance. If the inner light is blown out, even if the lamp is still in our hearts, the light has already gone out. A wind of ignorance always blows through our minds. If we light the lamp, ignorance immediately extinguishes it. This all happens in our minds. So, we must have self-respect. 所以我們要自愛，我們內心的燭光，我們要好好保護，讓我們自己自照前途。前面的路應該怎麼走，我們自己人人應該要有方向，有自照明這個本性；我們若是迷失了本性，就真的是心靈的冥途了，就一直迷失掉，就苦不堪。 We must protect the candlelight in our minds so we can illuminate our journey forward; so we know how to walk that path. We each should have a direction, a way to illuminate our intrinsic nature. If we lose our intrinsic nature, our minds are truly in the dark on our journey. We will keep getting lost and feel unbearable pain.  懺悔火坑地獄 We repent the Hell of Fire Pits, where we are roasted as retribution. We repent the Hell of Two Stones Crashing, where our bodies are crushed as retribution.  懺悔眾合黑耳地獄 We repent the Hell of Crashing Black Ears, where we are butchered as retribution. We repent the Hell of Darkness and Mountains of Flesh, where we are cut and chopped as retribution. 我們再來看這段懺文，就是－－「懺悔，火坑地獄，炮炙罪報；懺悔，兩石相磕地獄，形骸破碎罪報；懺悔，眾合黑耳地獄，解剔罪報；懺悔，闇冥內山地獄，斬剉罪報。」 Let us look at this passage, "We repent the Hell of Fire Pits, where we are roasted as retribution. We repent the Hell of Two Stones Crashing, where our bodies are crushed as retribution. We repent the Hell of Crashing Black Ears, where we are butchered as retribution. We repent the Hell of Darkness and Mountains of Flesh, where we are cut and chopped as retribution." 這些地獄你們看。火坑地獄－－火坑地獄就是炮炙罪報，在那個火坑裡中，火炮這樣子射，你所看到的整個人身，都像是肉醬一樣，整個開花了，血肉模糊，這就是炮炙地獄。就像是用火炮那樣去炸開，或者是去燒炸，這實在是苦不堪。 Look at these Hells. The Hell of Fire Pits is where we are roasted as retribution. Fireballs are shot out from within the fire pit. You can see human bodies become meat paste, get split open and mangled. This is a hell of roasting. People are blown up or exploded with fireballs. This is truly, unbearably painful. 是不是一次而已？還會再來！這個業若未盡，死而再活，活而再死，像是這樣在那個生生死死，永遠在這種的火坑地獄中，都是在這種炮炙地獄的罪報中。很苦！這只是地獄這樣而已嗎？其實這離人的心並不遠。 Does it just happen once? No, it happens again. If their karma is unexhausted, they will be revived to be killed again. They live and die like this, forever in the Hell of Fire Pits. They face retribution in this hell of roasting. This is painful. Does this only exist in Hell? This is actually not far from human minds. 再來再說，我們又要再「懺悔兩石相磕地獄」。像兩座石山一樣，大石那樣整個夾過來，身體整個粉碎，血肉模糊；已經沒有這個身體的形狀了，所以「形骸破碎」，完全碎掉的這種罪報。 Then we must also "repent the Hell of Two Stones Crashing". It is like two huge stone mountains crashing together so our whole body is crushed, turned into a bloody mess. Our body no longer looks like a body. So, "our bodies are crushed". This retribution completely crushes the body. 還要「懺悔眾合黑耳」。很多很多的這個聲音，但是完全分不清，到底是什麼聲音？這可能也是真的很辛苦！這種「眾合黑耳地獄」，這耳朵的疾病，無論是有什麼聲音都聽不到，但是什麼聲音都是很吵鬧。這種真的是很辛苦！我們有時也會聽到有人說：「我都聽不到，是為什麼聽不到？」因為在他的耳朵裡，總是有很多聲音，很大聲很大聲，這也有這種疾病。在人間還說有疾病如何來治療，在那裡根本是一種的罪報！ Then "we repent the Hell of Crashing Black Ears". There are so many sounds, but we cannot distinguish them or tell what they are. This can be truly painful. This "Hell of Crashing Black Ears" is like a disease of the ears. We cannot hear anything, but everything sounds noisy. This is truly painful. Sometimes we hear people say, "I cannot hear anything." Why can't they hear anything? There are too many noises, very loud noises. There are such diseases. In this world people will try to treat the illness. But in Hell it is a retribution for transgressions. 在地獄裡中，那種眾合黑耳，非常的嘈雜，非常的痛苦。這也是一種的地獄，這不是以言語可以形容。那這種眾合黑耳，我們要如何去形容？不如形容在我們人間－－人間有的人好的話聽不進去，不好的話撿一堆，非常的雜音，都是有傷害身心，這些語言他會跟著它一直走。 In the Hell of Crashing Black Ears it is very noisy and painful. This is also a type of hell. It cannot be described with words. How do we describe these Crashing Black Ears? Let us compare it to something in this world. Some people do not hear good words, but collect lots of bad ones. These are noisy and harmful to body and mind. They will follow those words. 從前的人說：「人的話聽不進去，鬼叫的就一直走過去。」這就是眾合的聲音，那這種眾合的聲音，不是我們所要的！本來我們都是很清淨，本來道理在我們的內心，但是我們自己的心地黑暗，我們自己明朗的方向偏差了。有人在指引我們時，但是另外一股的力量聲波，又在這樣把我們誘引過去，這都是叫做「眾合黑耳地獄」。真的很複雜的聲音，那樣來誘引我們去造很多的業。 In the past, people said, "Those who cannot listen to people follow the call of ghosts." This happens when sounds crash together. This is not what we want. We were once very pure. We once had truth in our minds. But we allowed our minds to darken. We have strayed from our clear direction. When someone is guiding us, another force, a wave of sound, seduces us. This is "the Hell of Crashing Black Ears". There are very complicated sounds that seduce us to create a lot of karma. 所以我們要墮入這種地獄，又是「解剔罪報」，這種要自己提高警惕，但是就是無法去提高警惕！因為他有眾合黑耳地獄，很多複雜的聲音，就是無法提高我們的警覺。 Thus we descend into this Hell where "we are butchered as retribution". We must be more vigilant. But we cannot do so because there are so many complicated sounds in the Hell of Crashing Black Ears. So we cannot become more vigilant. 又在還要懺悔的是，「暗冥肉山地獄」。真的很黑暗，山是肉疊起來的。人與人之間，是不是不乾淨的心，這是不是肉山呢？人若是不能夠「觀身不淨，觀受是苦」，那種色淫的欲念如果很重，其實永遠都是在肉山地獄中。色欲的刀，是很危險，放在我們頭上，若是稍微一閃失就是傷殺很大！這重重疊疊的肉山地獄，這種是「斬剉罪報」。這把刀永遠都是在頭上。這種色欲一定是犯淫，淫就像兩顆石頭一樣，在那裡磨擦，到最後也是不成形。 Then, we also need to repent "the Hell of Darkness and Mountains of Flesh", where it is very dark, and flesh is piled up into a mountain. In our relationships, do we interact with impure hearts? Isn't that like being on this mountain of flesh? Contemplate the body as unclean; contemplate sensations as suffering. If we have a lot of lustful desires, we are forever in the Hell of Mountains of Flesh. This knife of sexual desire is very dangerous. When it is above our heads, a slight misstep can cause tremendous injury. In this Hell of Mountains of Flesh, "we are cut and chopped as retribution". This knife forever hangs above our heads. With lustful desires comes sexual misconduct. Sexual misconduct is like two rocks grinding against each other; in the end they lose their shapes. 本來我們都是有清淨的本性，就是一念無明起，所以一切的穢濁，全都一直招惹到我們身上！所以一失人身就萬劫難再，地獄就不斷循環下去，這實在是很苦。 We once had a very pure nature. But an ignorant thought arose, so we attract filth and defilements. Once we lose human form it is difficult to regain. Then we will remain cycling in Hell. That will truly be painful.  懺悔鋸解釘身地獄 Repent the Hell of Sawing or Nailing the Body where body parts are chopped off as retribution. 還有嗎？還有！地獄後面還很多，還要再懺悔－－「懺悔，鋸解釘身地獄，斷裁罪報。」 Then there are many other Hells. Next we need to "Repent the Hell of Sawing or Nailing the Body where body parts are chopped off as retribution." 我們若走進醫院裡面，有多少人截肢，或者是要釘釘子，這在人間就有這麼多，我們看得到的！其實地獄不只是這樣，人間看得到的是為了治療，為了救他；地獄根本無人可救他，只有刑罰，沒有救。 This is all suffering of the body. If we walk into the hospital, we see how people's limbs are amputated or fastened back together. We see a lot of this in this world. Hell goes beyond this. This happens in our world as treatment, to save people. In Hell, no one can save them. There is only punishment, no rescue. 所以這種「鋸解」，把整個身體那樣解體，再用釘子又釘下去。這種「斷截罪報」，一塊一塊把他斬斷，一塊一塊把他釘，這種斷截的罪報。 So this "sawing" breaks apart the body. Then the pieces are nailed together. So "body parts are chopped off as retribution". Each piece is cut off and then nailed back on. The body parts are chopped off as retribution.  懺悔鐵棒倒懸地獄 Repent the Hell of Iron Rods and Hanging Upside Down, where we are slaughtered as retribution. 又要再懺悔，要－－「懺悔，鐵棒倒懸地獄，屠割罪報。」 Then we need to "repent the Hell of Iron Rods and Hanging Upside Down, where we are slaughtered as retribution". 那樣整個拿鐵棍來打他，然後把他吊起來，用像是我們的竹竿，他們用鐵棒，那樣把他吊起來，把他掛起來，倒懸、倒栽著吊。 People are beaten with iron rods and then are strung up. Instead of bamboo, they use metal bats. Then people are raised and hung upside down. 我們若說到七月，叫做「解倒懸」，那就是劇苦了！要救地獄的眾生，叫做「解倒懸」－－看要如何讓他從那樣倒栽著吊的情況下，能夠把他解放下來？可見這種的地獄是非常的痛苦。 When we talk about the seventh lunar month, we say we "release those hanging upside down". Hanging is extremely painful. Saving the sentient beings in Hell is called "releasing those hanging upside down". We try to release those who are hung upside down. Clearly this Hell is full of pain. 「屠割罪報」，那樣不只是把他倒栽著吊，還慢慢殺他、慢慢割，真的是苦不堪！ "Where we are slaughtered as retribution." Not only are people hung upside down, they are slowly killed and sliced. The suffering is truly unbearable.  懺悔焦熱叫喚地獄 We repent the Hell of Fretful Yells, where we are wronged as retribution. 又再還要懺悔－－「懺悔，焦熱叫喚地獄，煩冤罪報。」 Next, "We repent the Hell of Fretful Yells, where we are wronged as retribution." 這種的焦熱，非常熱惱，沒辦法，周圍全都是火。無論是鐵柱鐵床等等…或者是周圍鐵城火燒，這樣在叫喚，都是非常辛苦。 This fretfulness is like tremendous anxiety. They are helpless, completely surrounded by fire whether they are on an iron column, iron bed, or surrounded by flaming iron walls. The cries in these situations are full of suffering. 讓我們自己的內心，有一句話形容說：「心狂火燒。」那這也是一種的地獄。 There is a Chinese phrase that describes such a state of mind, crazy and fiery. This is also a type of Hell.  懺悔大小鐵圍山間 We repent the space between the great and small iron encircling mountains, where the long night is dark and we cannot see the Three Lights as retribution. 總而言之，我們這些地獄還有－－「大小鐵圍山間，長夜冥冥，不識三光罪報。」 In summary, there are many more such Hells. "We repent the space between the great and small iron encircling mountains, where the long night is dark and we cannot see the Three Lights as retribution." 這就是表示我們人生心地黑暗。 This represents the darkness in our minds. 各位，心地黑暗，這種的冥途方向迷失，深陷在泥沼裡中，不得自拔！不只是不得自拔，求救無人能助；甚至劇苦一直叫喚時，也沒有人聽得到。 Everyone, when our minds are dark, we lose our direction on this dark journey and sink deeply into a mud pit, so that we cannot extract ourselves. Not only that, though we beg to be saved, no one can help us. Even when we yell in extreme pain, no one can hear us. 這種的苦這種的折磨，我們應該時時提高警覺！不要到了眾合黑耳地獄，人家怎麼對我們說，我們還是沒有警惕的心，還是偏偏往那個黑暗的泥沼，一直陷下去，那就苦不堪。所以我們人人要時時多用心.。 We should be alert for this pain, this torment. Do not end up in the Hell of Crashing Black Ears, where no matter what others say, we are still not vigilant and blunder into the darkness and mire, and continuously sink down. That is unbearably painful. So everyone, please always be mindful. |
