１９５８年聖誕節出生於多倫多的阿蘭娜麥爾絲（Alannah Myles）是加拿大的冷豔搖滾女歌手

１６歲便開始表演

後來遇到Christopher Ward 幫助她組成自己的樂團

接著又跟製作人David Tyson相識　後者為麥爾絲統籌個人專輯製作

１９８９年初　阿蘭娜發行同名首張大碟

首支單曲〔Love Is〕登上加拿大榜＃５　讓她打開知名度

２月發行由Tyson&Ward合寫的第二主打〔Black Velvet／黑絲絨〕

這是一首中慢板　節拍分明的藍調流行搖滾　 內容跟貓王（Elvis Presley）有關
阿蘭娜尖銳沙啞的嗓音讓這首歌曲充滿一種挑逗的性感
慵懶但卻彷彿能刺激聽者的慾望
此曲登上加拿大亞軍　連帶專輯也拿下冠軍　大賣１００多萬張　成為鑽石唱片

這是加拿大有史以來最暢銷的歌手"處女作"

也讓阿蘭娜躍升當紅歌手　並贏得數座Juno音樂獎

１９９０年初　　麥爾絲進軍國際　以〔Black Velvet〕為首支主打

結果大受歡迎　稱霸美國流行榜冠軍兩週　成為金唱片（＞５０萬張）
