１９８２年８月，美國派拉蒙影業推出愛情舞蹈電影［Dirty Dancing／髒舞／熱舞十七］，影評票房皆成功（全球總票房１．７億美元gross）．

電影原聲帶專輯也跟著暢銷，並推出三首暢銷單曲．

由於電影背景設在１９６０年代，原聲帶收錄一些當時老歌，另外也創作一些新歌．

電影編劇 Eleanor Bergstein 希望由１９６０年代的著名歌手來演唱，將當時的音樂元素與美學融為一體。

新歌之一是［(Ive Had) The Time of My Life(我曾經有過)美好時光］，由John DeNicola，Donald Markowitz，Franke Previte創作．

這首歌最初是為唐娜桑瑪（Donna Summer）和喬·埃斯波西托（Joe Esposito）準備，但桑瑪拒絕了，因為她不喜歡這部電影的標題。

隨後，製作人 Michael Lloyd 找到戴瑞霍爾（Daryl Hall）和金康妮絲（Kim Carnes）進行表演；他們也拒絕了。

作為回應，原聲帶執行製作人Jimmy Ienne在兩個多月的時間裡多次聯繫正義兄弟樂隊（The Righteous Brothers）的比爾梅德利（Bill Medley）進行錄音，

但他也拒絕了，因為女兒即將出生，而他向妻子保證他會陪她。

比爾還擔心出現在另一首會失敗的電影歌曲中（１９８６年他與Gladys Knight為電影［眼鏡蛇／Cobra］原聲帶演唱主題曲［Loving on Borrowed Time），未入榜），並且還認為標題“就像一部糟糕的色情電影” 。

隨後，Jimmy Ienne找到了珍妮佛華恩絲（Jennifer Warnes）。

最初她在聽到樣本後表示不願意，但被當時的男友說服──因為 Ienner 提供了一大筆錢──接受了這個邀請，條件是她可以與她崇拜的梅德利 一起演唱。

結果，在他的女兒出生後，梅德利再次被聯繫，這次是華恩絲的提議。

梅德利也欣賞她的歌聲，隨後同意錄製這首歌，條件是他要在洛杉磯灌錄。

Michael Lloyd將［(Ive Had) The Time of My Life／(我曾經有過)美好時光］製作成一首成人流行／軟式搖滾曲，旋律悅耳，節奏輕快搖曳．

比爾的扎實有利男聲與珍妮佛的溫柔剔透女生搭配和諧，受到好評．

完成主唱後，Lloyd請梅德利和華恩絲為這首歌添加額外的和聲和華麗效果。

這首歌大約在一小時內完成。

由此產生的混音被 DeNicola 描述為“正義兄弟類型的歌曲”。
