１９９３年，美國流行歌姬狄昂華薇克（Dionne Warwick）在巴西東北部的巴伊亞購買一座古老的西班牙風格城堡，並開始與製作人Téo Lima 一起錄製她的下一個項目──巴西爵士樂和流行音樂的合集。

與她「討厭」的先前專案不同，華薇克很喜歡［Aquarela do Brasil］ 的專輯錄音，在此期間，她接受了和聲歌手Eliana Estevao 的葡萄牙語發音指導。

狄昂對［Aquarela do Brasil］商業表現感到失望，歸咎於Arista Records的推廣團隊和公司負責人Clive Davis缺乏支持。

華薇克在 2011 年的自傳《我的生活，正如我所見》中寫道，她很遺憾沒有在［Aquarela do Brasil］的推廣中發揮更大作用。

由於 Arista 正在經歷內部變革，［Aquarela do Brasil］在專輯發行後不久便離開唱片公司。
