１９６５年１２月，３３歲的英國歌壇巨星佩圖拉．克拉克（Petula Clark）推出單曲［My Love／我的愛］（Pye Nixa發行）

由Tony Hatch創作, 並製作成一首流行曲,　節奏快速，克拉克的詮釋活潑．

１９６５年１１月，在從倫敦飛往洛杉磯的航班上， Tony Hatch正在為他的作品［派對的生命與靈魂／The Life and Soul of the Party) 做最後潤色，他計劃與克拉克在洛杉磯錄製這首歌曲，作為她的下一首單曲。

在跟他旁邊的美國人的隨意交談中，Hatch得知這首歌的標題對美國公眾來說毫無意義。

Hatch隨後為一首歌曲寫了歌詞，其標題［My Love］不可能出現任何理解問題；

歌詞是在飛行期間完成的，哈奇在抵達洛杉磯後不久就完成了音樂。

［My Love］是在 Western Studios錄製的，並得到了 Wrecking Crew 的支持。

佩圖拉回憶道：「我們在那次錄製中錄製了三首歌…我非常喜歡另外兩首歌，但我真的不喜歡［My Love」…我覺得它有點普通。

我已經習慣了這些美妙的歌曲，以至於Tony一直以各種不同的心情寫歌，我覺得［My Love］有點平淡。」

克拉克描述她如何試圖阻止華納兄弟A&R 人員喬史密斯發行專輯單曲［My Love］：

“他是個身材非常矮小的男人…身高對我來說正好。

我能夠抓住他的翻領，我對他說，『喬，我不在乎你發行[三首歌中]的哪首，但只是不要發行［My Love』。 他說：『相信我，寶貝。』＂

［My Love］登上英國單曲榜＃４　

在１９６６年 ２月５日登美國告示牌單曲榜冠軍兩週（８４萬張＋），

這使得克拉克成為第一位兩次獲得美國冠軍的英國女性。
