１９４８年出生於英國劍橋的奧莉維亞紐頓強（Olivia Newton-John）為英國威爾斯（父）與德國猶太混血（母）

外祖父是得到諾貝爾獎的德國猶太人物理學家６歲移民到澳大利亞墨爾本

奧莉維亞自小喜歡音樂　１４歲便曾擔任女子樂團主唱

不久便在澳洲電視與廣播表演

並認識後來的好友兼事業夥伴Pat Carroll與製作人John Farrar（兩位後來結為夫妻）

爾後紐頓強贏得一項電視歌唱比賽　獎品是到英國旅行

奧莉維亞原本猶豫離鄉　但在母親鼓勵下　一年後回到英國

１９６６年　紐頓強並在倫敦為Decca唱片灌製首支單曲〔Till You Say You’ll Mine〕

Pat Carroll爾後來到英國　兩人組成二重唱　開始在歐洲夜店表演

但Pat的護照到期返回澳洲後　奧莉維亞只好開始個人音樂生涯

紐頓強又參加一個名為‘Tomorrow’的樂團　但也遭到解散命運

１９７１年５月　２２歲半的奧莉維亞推出首支單曲〔If Not For You／假如不是因為你〕

此曲為巴布狄倫（Bob Dylan）作品  收在他１９７０年大碟［New Morning］

雖有發單曲　但反應不佳

後來喬治哈里遜也在１９７０年專輯［All Things Must Pass］翻唱

奧莉維亞版由John Farrar, Bruce Welch製作

編曲偏向喬治哈里遜版, 走民謠／鄉村流行風, 配上紐頓強細緻嗓音的和煦詮釋

出版後便受到歡迎　登上英國單曲榜＃７（年終＃８４）

挪威＃６　澳洲＃７（年終＃７１）　紐西蘭＃８　荷蘭＃１１　加拿大＃１８　比利時＃２９

美國榜＃２５（年終＃７６）　副榜──Easy Listening則封后, 開始她十度稱霸此榜的開始

讓紐頓強立刻受到矚目　成為歌壇熱門新秀

１９７１年１１月　奧莉維亞發行首張個人專輯　便以〔If Not For You〕名之

登上澳洲榜＃１７　拿到白金唱片　美國＃１５８

紐頓強並連續兩年被Record Mirror雜誌選為英國最佳女歌手
