１９４８年出生於英國劍橋的奧莉維亞紐頓強（Olivia Newton-John）為英國威爾斯（父）與德國猶太混血（母）

外祖父是得到諾貝爾獎的德國猶太人物理學家６歲移民到澳大利亞墨爾本

奧莉維亞自小喜歡音樂　１４歲便曾擔任女子樂團主唱

不久便在澳洲電視與廣播表演

並認識後來的好友兼事業夥伴Pat Carroll與製作人John Farrar（兩位後來結為夫妻）

爾後紐頓強贏得一項電視歌唱比賽［Sing, Sing, Sing］　獎品是到英國旅行

奧莉維亞原本猶豫離鄉　但在母親鼓勵下　一年後回到出生地英國

１９６６年　紐頓強並在倫敦為Decca唱片灌製首支單曲〔Till You Say You’ll Mine／直到你說你是我的人〕

這是翻唱美國歌手潔琪．德莎儂（Jackie DeShannon）１９６３年發行的歌曲．

被製作成一首流行／搖滾，在響亮的樂聲中，奧莉維亞以她當時仍質樸的嗓音演繹

單曲沒有署名歌曲製作人，只是簡單地寫著它是「共和製作／A Republic Production」。

１９６６年５月１３日發行後，並未入排行榜，沒造成迴響．

樂評也不佳，紐頓-強曾經回憶過一篇評論，說它“聽起來像是在浴室裡錄製的”

單曲的失敗使其成為 Decca 發行的唯一紐頓-強單曲；

直到１９７１年，她才在Pye International Records) 發行發行下一首個人單曲［If Not for You］。
