由電視節目〔Soul Train〕的booking agentDick Griffey與英國R&B製作人Simon Soussan所創立

１９７６年成立　成員包括〔Soul Train〕的著名舞者茱蒂華特利（Jody Watley） 以及兩名男成員　三人皆為主唱

雖然團員更迭數次　但都維持一女二男型態

１９７７年　夏拉瑪以首支單曲〔Uptown Festival（Part 1）〕正式進軍歌壇

推出不少迪斯可名曲

１９８０年底, 夏拉瑪推出第四張大碟［Three for Love／愛的三人組］

由Leon Sylvers III製作, 以後迪斯可, 放克,靈魂, R&B等曲風為主

樂評優異, 被視為他們事業最佳大碟

在幾首靈魂界熱門曲支撐下, ［Three for Love］登上美國Billboard專輯榜＃４０　副榜－－靈魂榜＃８

１９８１年初, 夏拉瑪推出第二主打［Make That Move］
