Tammy chaired the gathering. First, she hosted a game for translation of vegetables and spices. Then, it’s show time for our new members (Sophia, Amer, Miriam, Vicky, Teresa and Masa) to make presentation after studying articles of SC magazine or share their own stories. Last, Andy led the discussion of our FB group settings.

Tammy: Game on translation of vegetables and spices

3 teams competed and team C won the game. Here were some quizzes: wolfberries 枸杞, saffron 番紅花, lemongrass 香茅, luffa gourd 絲瓜, water chestnut 荸薺, and eggplant 茄子.

Sophia: The history of Ludwig van Beethoven on page 12

First, she mentioned some famous composer of classical music such as Mozart, Bach, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky.  Then, she unfolded the story of Beethoven with details. And the articles ended with this: after he conducted his Ninth Symphony, he said, “I write not for you, but for those who shall come after.”

Amer: The craziest thing that I’ve done in my life

When she was at her twenties, she made a critical decision to move all her family to US to help his husband to earn a master degree. And she had her second baby there due to the insurance program, instead of for the US citizenship.

Miriam: Something interesting in my job

She worked as custom broker for 32 years and experienced lots of interesting things when handling the import of some special items.  Here were some special examples: coffin, panda, baby giraffe, hawk, whale shark, emperor penguin, etc.

Vicky: Pokemon

In our club, 2 members continue playing Pokemon Go game while Vicky reaches the 31^st level and Heaven the 23^rd.  She detailed how to play it. And listed the various records the game broke, the business opportunities it created, and the 5 reasons why it became so successful.

Teresa: The Bottom of the World on page 20

She displayed the basic information of Antarctica to let all members clearly know what it looks like. Then she showed some package tours with a high cost around 660 thousand Taiwan dollars. If it’s too expensive, the alternative was to fly to Ushuaia, Argentina and book the cruise.

Masa: Sports and Health 150 Program on page 38

First, he mentioned the 1200-kimometer bike trip for his family to cycle from Taipei to Taitung during the upcoming winter vacation. Then he introduced some tools for marathon because he will join the marathon held in Tokyo next February.  He explained the 150 program is to exercise 150 minutes a week to get healthier.

Andy: Discussion on FB group settings of our club

After an enthusiastic discussion, we came out the conclusion as follows.

Name: 北投英文導覽社English Tour Guide Club / Beitou Community College

Privacy: Public group; anyone can see the group, its members and their posts.

Membership Approval: Any member can add members, but an admin must approve them. This is to ensure only our club members are entitled to join the FB group.

Posting Permission: All members can post to the group

Post Approval: All group posts must be approved by an admin. This is to keep the posts really related to our club like weekly gathering, knowledge of Beitou, or tour guide skills. And minimize typos and mistakes.
