◆ History
The temple was established in December 1915 and completed in January 1916. But it was very simple and crude. Until 1934, it rebuilt extensively and showed a stately and elegant in appearance as we can see today. ◆ Origin It was originally named “TIeh Chen Yuan”.(鐵真院) Hirada Gengo(平田源吾) who owned “Tiangouan”(天狗庵) and Murakami Shouich(村上一彰) who was the head of Transportation Class in Railway Department both started the idea to build it and it was financial aided by staffs of Railway Department and local officers. So the temple was named “Tieh” which means railway in Chinese Character. Until the recovery of Taiwan from Japan, Living Buddha Kangyurwa (甘珠活佛)changed the name from “Tien Chen Yuan” to “Puji Tenple”. ◆ Location It’s located in the valley of mountains. It’s covered by many species of trees, insects and birds, then you will blend into nature. ◆ Characteristics ◇ Sect – It originally belonged to one of Shingon(真言宗) sect of Buddhism, and the main Buddha to be worshiped is “Tang Shou Kuan Yin”(湯守觀音). Since the name was changed, the sect became the sect to Pure Land Faith(淨土宗) till now. , ◇ Constructive Structure – The type of the temple is Japanese style imitating Han-Tang building style and it presents the characteristics of Japan’s Nara(奈良) and Edo(江戶) period. The wood was high-quality of Taiwan Hinoki. The front hall of the temple was constructed with a gabled roof and the width and depth are both san-kai-chien(三開間) which is 40x40 square meters. ( 130坪 ). Two sides of the most front part of the roof were placed two turtles with fish tail that means longevity and avoids from evil and the windows were made into the bell shape. ◇ Tang Shou Kuan Yin – Holding a bottle of clear water( means endless flowing of hot spring ); Standing on the shell of a turtle( means longevity ) ◇ Zi An Kuan Yin ( Koyasu Buddha子安菩薩 ) – It was made in 1930. A rock-made statue of Buddha with a baby in left hand and a Buddhist cane in right hand. People pray for offspring or for goodness and health for children. The monument of Mr. Murakami Shouichi – It was established in 1934, for gratitude of the achievements in developing and contribution of Peitou from Mr. Murakami Shouichi. |
