Fountains (Grand fountain/Duck Fountain)
Both of the fountains with different styles were established in 1913 (the same year as Beitou Park established). And the classical fountains were one of important feature of the park.
The Grand Fountain : It is a fountain with Japanese style. There are four small platforms around the fountain to provide visitors a closer view of the water lily and the fountain itself. Because the fountain was also a scene of the movie "Turn Left, Turn Right", so, it became a famous and must-see scenic spot for visitors.
Duck Fountain: This fountain is a kind of Baroque style with splendid and special design. There used to be a brass duck statue at the center of the fountain, and water could spout upwards through duck's beak. Unfortunately, the duck statue was gone many years ago. There is another same one in "Taipei Guest House" (in Taipei city.)
To build these fountains in early days, except the landscape design for sight-seeing, the most important function of the fountains is to adjust the pressure of tap-water pipes for residents in Beitou. In order to release the excessive pressure to those water transferring pipes, the fountains were build at the same time as the water pipes were under construction. By using the pressure of tap-water pipes, the sprinkle nozzles could spout water from the running water like natural geysers. These were the only and very advanced facilities at that time. Beitou started using the tap-water in 1911.
