| 1. Movie Review on “Pride and Prejudice” (2003) 2011/06/22 12:07
Jane Austen, the famous novelist as being heard today, was undoubtedly one of the most successful female writers in her age with her widely known novel Pride and Prejudice. The fame of her novel had been widely spread as movie producers brought this story in front of the audiences. If I shall exaggerate the success of this novel with it’s joining on the big screen, I would say that Pride and Prejudice might have been so popular that it went on the screen as soon as movie theatres became something that meant for common entertainment. Various different versions of movies and television series based on the novel had been taken well before the latest version was shown on the big screen. Looking at the movie itself, it is already an outstanding motion picture that had addressed nearly all the best and important aspects of the style and background of the novel. As a first time audience without even reading the novel, two of the main characters had successfully played out the complicated inner emotional relationship between each and every other role that were involved. Elizabeth, the girl who held all the negative judgments to Darcy without even trying to understand him, later on discovers how childish she were for not giving herself a second chance to get to know Darcy. On the other hand, Darcy had his pride all over him to not even notice how he humiliates himself in ignoring the love of his life with his unpleasant manner. Perhaps we should have come to think that the movie itself, even though maybe lavishly elaborating on the romance of how this love story end up happily ever after, may have another perspective of how this story inspires us. It might be 19th century looking with some of the old fashioned customs, but this definitely reminds us how people easily judge each other without even making an effort to get to know better. This is something that can get us thinking on how pride and prejudice still an issue that has commonly seen between relationships. 2. Movie Review on “The Hours” (2002) 2011/06/22 22:35 The Hours, based on the original novel of the same name written by Michael Cunningham, is yet an impressive story that has transformed on to the big screen. With the background of three different women in three different period of time, the movie had told three different but similar stories all happening in just one day. Virginal Woolf, the famous writer struggles herself through her inner part between how she behaves as on the outer part of her which the society values. It’s the same as to Laura and Clarissa as they prepare for a party and reconsidered their own value. The movie really had got us into thinking how we are valued as our own or to be the value of others. Clarissa’s wakening from Richard’s death truly motivated her to rethink how she should be thinking more about herself and not living for others. This also brings audiences into thinking how we are determined in the position that was standing today. When we were influenced by how the society sees us and how we set our priorities in life, there’s always something that we should know. That is, to always remember that we were never meant to be dominated by any other person, but to really understand the meaning of living your own life. |
