四種境界看人生

The disciple asked his master, “How can I become a person who is happy for himself and brings happiness to others?”

Bodhidharma replied with a smile: There are four states of being; you can experience the joys of each.

First, think of yourself as someone else. This is “no-self.”
You can gradually reduce your attachment to yourself and learn to live with the flow without worrying about trivial personal things.

Second, be as considerate of others as you are to yourself, which leads to compassion.
Put yourself in someone else’s shoes and develop empathy. This is empathy.

Then, to become objective, see others as strangers, which leads to wisdom.
Others have their own thoughts and their own way of life. Respect and understand others, tolerate each other, and seek common ground while resolving differences. This is wisdom.

Finally, accept yourself as you are. This is “at ease.”
Don’t allow others’ opinions of you to control who you are. Accept everything that happens to you, and let your true self come out. You will gain personal freedom, and then you will be at ease.

弟子問師父:“如何才能變成一個自己愉快、也帶給別人快樂的人?”

達摩笑答:有四種境界,你可體會其中妙趣。
首先,要把自己當成別人,此是“無我”;
做為普通人,可以逐步減少對自我的執著,學著順其自然的生活。

再之,要把別人當成自己,這是“慈悲”;
換位思考,遇事站在對方的立場想想,有同理心 ,這是慈悲。

而後,要把別人當成別人,此是“智慧”;
別人有別人的思想,別人有別人的生活方式,尊重和理解對方,彼此包容,求同存異,這是智慧。

最後,要把自己當成自己,這是“自在”。
不活在別人的目光,期待,評論中,接受一切環境, 一切隨緣,活出真實自己,就是自在了。
