The Quest for the Sun Scepter
by Chen Qingyang

Chapter One: Light of Prophecy

1. The Tower of Dawn

Hidden deep in the valleys among towering mountains lies Stellaris Academy, a mysterious institution that gathers the most extraordinary mages to teach advanced magical arts. At its center stands the Tower of Dawn, around which the star-shaped campus is built.

On the top floor of the tower, in an air filled with the scent of parchment and dust, the soft rustle of turning pages echoes. Eileen Moonshadow, cloaked in deep blue robes, her silver hair shimmering in the faint light, peers into an ancient prophecy book:

"When the Staff of Light is broken into three, the world shall fall into sand and mist. Only when star and flame clash once more, can the Circle of Fate be reborn."

Eileen murmurs the passage, her fingertips trembling slightly as the pages turn by themselves. Above her, the dome flashes with a golden beam, as if the stars themselves are calling.

“It… truly exists,” she whispers.

Footsteps echo from the spiral staircase, followed by Kuru’s booming voice:

“Hey, little witch! Are you whispering to the stars again?”

Eileen rolls her eyes.

“That’s Star Speech—the language of the ancient Sun God. Not that you’d understand.”

Kuru grins and flexes his muscular arms as he enters.

“All I know is, when you chant, the whole tower gets goosebumps and starts trembling.”

Just then, Sylos steps from the shadows, his cloak damp with dew, eyes sharp like a wolf’s.

“It’s time. The Sand Maze City won’t wait. If we’re late, the Flameborne Cult will beat us there.”

Eileen lifts her gaze, resolve gleaming in her eyes.

“Then we get there first—and find the first fragment of the staff.”

2. The Deadwind Cliffs

The desert wind howls, and the jagged cliffs of Deadwind rise like the fangs of a devouring dragon. As the team reaches the entrance to the maze city, a phantom sandstorm erupts. Voices whisper in the wind, as if guiding Eileen.

Lima closes her eyes and waves her hands—vines and wind intertwine to form a protective barrier.

“This wind isn't natural… It’s an ancient enchantment meant to confuse intruders. The city is resisting us.”

Sylos draws his blade.

“Then we must be close.”

Eileen opens her palm, summoning a silver starburst that fires a light arrow into the sands. The desert parts, revealing a half-buried pyramid, marked by a blazing sun symbol.

Inside the pyramid, the chamber walls bear carvings of the sun’s positions: Dawn, Noon, Dusk, Night. On a central stone disk, an inscription reads:

“Only the light of true noon reveals the heart of the god.”

Eileen whispers,

“A light-reflection puzzle. I have to mimic true noon sunlight and hit the correct rune—otherwise, the pyramid will collapse.”

She brings out a star dial and reflective mirror, using astral projection magic to simulate solar angles. After several failed attempts, she finally aligns the beam with the Noon rune.

Boom!
The stone door opens—but spears and flames shoot from both sides. Sylos tackles Eileen out of harm’s way.

Kuru charges in with his shield raised.

“Go! Don’t stop!”

3. The Flameborne Messenger

Past the main chamber, a shadow descends. A four-winged beast of fire lands in flames, bearing Hargus, a Flameborne emissary.

“Fools. You dare touch the Sun Scepter?”

Hargus grins, lips curling with searing malice.

Eileen raises her starlight staff.

“We won’t let you succeed.”

A magical battle ignites:

  • Hargus summons a Flamefang Array, turning the ground into molten labyrinths.

  • Lima counters with wind spirits, dispersing the fire walls. Vines shoot arrows from the cracks.

  • Sylos and Kuru attack together—one vaults over the enemy while the other strikes from the front.

  • Eileen opens a Starfield Barrier, giving her team time to dodge a fatal blow.

Finally, Eileen shatters Hargus’s shield with the Falling Light Curse. The beast crashes, injured, and the enemy retreats.

4. The First Fragment

In the main chamber’s stone sarcophagus lies the first fragment of the Sun Scepter, glowing gold and crimson. Eileen touches it, and a fiery sigil appears.

“The Sun… is waking.”

Far away, Rozak sneers before an obsidian mirror:

“Good. Let her find the other two for me.”

Chapter Two: Cracks in the Obsidian Valley

1. The Valley's Edge

The northern Obsidian Valley, cold as knives, lies like a sleeping black dragon. Here, magma and frost intertwine, and the glowing rock veins pulse faintly.

Eileen and her companions gaze from the valley mouth.

“This is where the final piece lies,” she whispers.

Lima, cloaked in jungle green, looks worn but resolute.

“I can feel it—beneath the volcanic heart, at the core of the obsidian.”

Sylos glares.

“And how do we know you’re not hiding something again?”

Lima meets his gaze, calm.

“I’ve paid for my past. If you still don’t trust me, don’t come.”

Tension spikes—until Kuru breaks it.

“Enough. We don’t have time for infighting.”

Eileen grips her staff.

“Right. This is our true trial. We’re here to stop Rozak—not doubt one another.”

2. The Obsidian Altar

Across the valley, flames erupt. The Flameborne legion assembles, clad in black armor. Atop the altar stands Rozak, robed in lava, eyes blazing.

“Core fire… heed my call.”

He raises the partial staff. The altar fractures. From the fire emerges Kalrith, a colossal lava drake, its molten scales coursing with flame.

Garrad, the lieutenant, rides up on a fire spirit tiger.

“Master, they’ve arrived.”

Rozak smirks.

“Then let’s welcome them properly.”

3. The Star Alliance

Eileen rallies her own army: elven rangers, desert blade clans, orc mercenaries—more than a hundred strong.

Lima summons forest beasts—giant tree apes and vine-winged birds.

Sylos calls in fireblade riders from his desert contacts.

Kuru controls a massive war golem, personally installing its core.

“We may be few,” Eileen tells them, “but every one of us is here to fight for the future.”

4. Rozak’s Messenger

As the two armies prepare, a black-robed envoy arrives under a shield of magical fire.

“My master invites Eileen to descend alone into the valley to witness ‘the choice of heavenly fire.’ The rest shall not be allowed.”

The army stirs. Sylos draws his sword.

“It’s a trap.”

But Eileen shakes her head.

“I must go. If Rozak completes the staff, we’ll never regain the upper hand.”

Lima grips her hand.

“If you go, you’re handing him our hope.”

“No,” Eileen replies softly, “I’m going to take it back.”

5. The Battle of Souls

Eileen ventures alone and finds Rozak—and the final piece: a fragment sheathed in lava, floating above the volcanic chasm.

Rozak smiles.

“At last, child of the stars.”

“You wield cruelty and decay. You’ll never command true light.”

He grins.

“Then let the staff choose.”

He combines the three fragments. Fire and light explode as the full staff rises, flooding the valley in brilliance.

But the staff does not choose—it hovers in doubt.

Rozak roars and pours black flame into it.

“Choose me!”

Eileen clasps her hands, summoning the Heart of the Stars.

“Choose the true heir—not a tyrant!”

The staff cries out, torn between two wills.

6. Clash of Armies

Rozak explodes in fury. The valley quakes, lava erupts. His army attacks.

The Star Alliance charges:

  • Kuru’s golem clashes with Kalrith the lava dragon.

  • Lima casts healing rain from the sky on her vine-winged mount.

  • Sylos and the fireblade knights pierce into the enemy ranks, targeting Garrad.

  • Eileen returns to a battlefield bathed in fire and chaos.

She looks up at the floating staff.

“This isn’t about who wields power—it’s about who deserves the future.”

As the fight nears its climax, Kalrith roars, tree apes fall, Eileen is thrown and wounded.

Rozak approaches with the staff.

“You’ve lost. Justice is a weakling’s illusion.”

But Sylos, Lima, and Kuru shield her with their bodies.

Eileen gasps,

“You’re wrong… True strength is refusing to let others bear pain alone.”

The staff suddenly shatters in mid-air—fragments flying into each of them, glowing brightly.

An ancient voice echoes across the sky:

“The Sun Scepter belongs not to one—but to all who carry hope and responsibility.”

Rozak howls, engulfed in ominous fire.

“Then I’ll burn it all—no one will have a future!”

Eileen, barely conscious, lifts her head.

“Our next battle… isn’t just to stop him. It’s to redeem the will of the scepter itself.”

The valley continues to crack, the volcano nears eruption.
The final battle is about to begin.

7. The Heart of Obsidian Valley
On the brink of a volcanic eruption, searing winds rose from the earth’s core. Rozak stood atop a crumbling lava bridge, his figure godlike and demonic. The Sunstaff in his grasp had shattered into four pieces, now floating around him in a ring of flames devouring the sky and ground.

"Do you understand now, Eileen?" he whispered. "Dawn is nothing more than the ashes of darkness."

Eileen stood across from him, her breath weak, blood staining her chest. Lira, Silos, and Kuru had also been struck down, but they still struggled to their feet. The four stood back-to-back above the chasm.
The fragments of the staff glowed faintly within them, not yet fully awakened.
Eileen murmured, "True power... belongs to no one alone."
She raised the broken hilt of her staff, and the four poured their will into it—

“May our hearts become the forge of rebirth;
May our wounds become the ground for light;
May the sun awaken once more.”

Lightning split the sky, tearing through clouds of fire. The four fragments collided like meteors and fused at the volcano’s heart.
The Sunstaff was reforged!
No longer the same as before, it now shimmered with starlight, vines, firesteel, and soulshadows—a crystallization of the four’s united will.

Rozak roared, "Impossible! This power... is not mine!"
He raised his arms and transformed into a lava colossus, behind him rising the phantom of the Scorching Sun Cult’s deity—Kaenos, the Dying Sun Demon, a fusion of flames and wailing spirits that shook the land.

Eileen held the staff before her and turned to the others. “This isn’t a battle for one. It’s ours together.”
The Dawn Sigil of the Four unfolded at their feet:
—Eileen cast Star Abyss Arrow, piercing the demon’s chest with light.
—Lira summoned Roots of the Forest Realm, binding the colossus’s arm in a net of vines.
—Silos drew his Flameblade and used Desert Shadow Slash to sever its ankle.
—Kuru commanded the Titan’s Heart golem, slamming into the demon’s back, unleashing a massive explosion.

Rozak howled, the demon retaliating with full fury. Fire engulfed the heavens, turning the sky blood red.
“If I cannot rule, then I’ll die with you all!”
He tried to throw the staff back into the lava, to erase all existence.

Eileen dashed forward, grasping the staff as fire devoured her cloak. Rozak’s hand closed in—the staff trembled between them, as if making its final choice.

Lira cried out, “Eileen, let go!”
But Eileen whispered softly:
“O staff... choose the one who does not seek to possess you. Choose the one willing to let go.”

She released her grip.
The staff floated midair, its light suddenly condensing.

“The choice is made.”
A golden light cleaved through the valley like the morning sun, engulfing Rozak. His body cracked, burned, and disintegrated. The demon’s phantom vanished like smoke.

Chapter Three
1. A New Dawn Descends
Peace returned to Obsidian Valley. The earth steadied, and the crater slowly sealed.
Eileen lay on the scorched rock, barely breathing. Lira held her tightly, tears falling like rain.
"Don't sleep... we won. You haven’t seen the new dawn yet..."

Eileen smiled faintly and pointed skyward.
The sun rose, bathing the entire valley in light. In the morning glow, the Sunstaff slowly descended from the sky and embedded itself in the stone—like a bridge between god and humankind.
Silos spoke solemnly, “This is not the end. It’s a new beginning.”

2.
Months later, Starfall Academy was rebuilt. The Sunstaff was enshrined atop the Tower of Dawn.

Lira became the new Guardian of the Jungle Temple.
Kuru rebuilt the School of Constructs, training the next generation of defenders.
Silos returned to the desert, protecting the honor and freedom of warriors.
And Eileen...
She stood silently atop the tower, gazing into the newborn light, murmuring:
"May the world no longer need heroes like us."

庫魯操縱巨型傀儡,直衝魔龍;

莉瑪站在藤翼鳥上空中施法,灑下治癒之雨;

席洛斯與火刃騎士長衝入敵陣,直刺伽拉德;

「願我們的心,成為重鑄之火;

願我們的傷,成為光明之地;

艾琳施展「星淵之矢」,以光箭刺穿魔神胸口;

莉瑪召喚「森界根律」,將巨神右臂封鎖於藤網之中;

席洛斯拔出火刃之劍,以「沙影追命」斬斷其腳根;

莉瑪成為「叢林神殿」的新守護者;

庫魯重建傀儡學派,訓練新世代防衛者;

席洛斯重返沙漠,守護戰士的榮耀與自由;
