Communication is what you need to do to your parents. And be a little bit kind to them, it is hard for aged people to change to fit to the changing world. They'd be scared to go out side, to face the world they don't recognize.
Why don't you install yahoo or msn web cam? That way both of you can see each other everytime you talk, and it is cheaper than telephone bill. I know it is not good as to see in person but better than nothing.
