While the Chinese/Lunar New Year's Day is approaching, it's interesting to know that there would be "TWO" months of July (an additional "Intercalary Month of July") in this coming year . That accounts total of 13 months / 385 days in the coming year of the dog. The traditional Chinese Farmer's Calendar adopts a leap month system called "7 Intercalgary Months every 19 Years." In another words, an additional month is added every two or three years in the lunar calendar.

閏月的出現是我國農曆為順應季節變化巧妙安排的結果。在農曆中，曆月以朔望月（月亮連續兩次呈現同樣的月相所經歷的時間）的變化周期為依據，平均長度是２９．５３０６天，因此農曆大月３０天、小月２９天，全年１２個月，一年僅有３５４天或３５５天，與陽曆年相差１１天左右。這樣兩三年後會相差１個月，如果不調整，久而久之會出現月份與寒暑的顛倒。為了保持與回歸年同步，古人採用設置閏月的方法來解決這個矛盾。現行農曆置閏方法是“十九年七閏”，因此每隔２年到３年，就必須增加一個閏月。
