A signal jammer was uncovered by Vanderburgh officers during their investigation into a suspected burglary. In the course of a search, officers from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office identified a sophisticated signal jammer, which is the first time the sheriff's office has come across such equipment. Sheriff Robinson remarked that this device is equipped to disable Wi-Fi cameras, doorbells, and security systems utilizing radio sensors. It has the potential to shut down all of these systems. The only rationale for owning a device like this is to commit harmful acts for immoral objectives. Officials have indicated that there are no laws against the ownership of signal jammers, but employing one is classified as a federal crime. Sheriff Robinson indicated that the following step is to confer with lawmakers. He expressed, "It is odd that Indiana has no legislation that specifically addresses communication jamming. I believe this issue needs to be resolved, and I will work alongside state legislators to amend this deficiency." The sheriff's office reported that everything is associated with a suspected burglary that occurred during the day close to the village of Cambridge. There is a belief that two men have perpetrated an assault on a home with the aid of high-tech tools. Police stated that on Sunday, a couple came back to their house and found two strange men inside. Law enforcement stated that both suspects departed the scene in a gray Jeep. The arrests were successfully carried out as deputies found themselves in the right location at the right moment, aided by a FLOCK camera that the Village of Cambridge had purchased through the Sheriff's Office. Jaime Riveras, a Chilean individual, was stopped by deputies of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office on Highway 41 after they received information regarding a criminal incident. Sheriff Robinson indicated that Riveras maintained he was on a journey from St. Louis to Florida and did not halt in Evansville. Sheriff Noah Robinson reported that, in conjunction with the witness statements, a search warrant was obtained for all contents of the vehicle. The search resulted in the discovery of two cell phones, which contained GPS data that placed the suspect vehicle at Riveras' residence, located within the burglarized home. Multiple charges have been brought against Riveras, including the alleged interference with crime reports through the use of a signal gps jammer. The VCSO still views this as an active investigation and is in the process of searching for individuals associated with Rivera. |
