New Delhi: The presence of Chinese mobile signal jammers in the city's markets has been noted, in violation of the Cabinet Secretariat's guidelines that ban the use and sale of such devices by individuals. Recently, an illegal jammer was confiscated by the police at Palika Market in Connaught Place. The police are conducting an investigation into the origins of these illicit jammers and are attempting to locate potential buyers, particularly in response to the recent explosions in Prashant Vihar, Rohini, and the perceived risk of terrorism. Authorities suspect that a broader network may be implicated in the importation of these mini gps jammer to compromise communication systems. It is significant to mention that Palika Market and New Lajpat Rai Market are well-known for their sale of affordable electronic items, which frequently include pirated and counterfeit products. The Connaught Place police arrested a shopkeeper on October 24 for the illegal possession of a mobile signal jammer, following an operation initiated due to rising security concerns. The suspect, named Ravi Shankar Mathur and aged 58, was found to have in his possession a jammer manufactured in China, which is capable of obstructing mobile phone signals. Authorities discovered the device, along with other related components, including ten antennas and an electrical connecting wire, in a shop within Palika Bazar. In response to questioning, Mathur could not furnish any paperwork, including bills or licenses, to demonstrate that he owned the gsm blocker. He claimed to have bought the device from the New Rajpath Rai market for Rs 25,000, intending to resell it for a greater amount. Documented in the seizure memorandum were the items that had been confiscated, which included a silver-grey jammer measuring 30x13 cm, possessing 10 antenna jacks that work with different mobile technologies, in addition to a manual that described the device's characteristics and installation process. The Department of Telecommunications has been informed that it will proceed with further investigations into Mathur and will implement the necessary legal actions against him. |
