摩爾門經尼腓三書27:8:「不用我的名字稱呼的，怎會是我的教會呢？因為一個用摩西的名字稱呼的教會，是摩西的教會；用某人的名字稱呼的，是某人的教會；但是如果用我的名字稱呼，如果建立在我的福音上，那就是我的教會。」

大概由於這節經文，耶穌基督後期聖徒教會認為路得、長老、天主教等教名沒有用耶穌基督的名字稱呼的，不是耶穌基督的教會。

摩爾門經尼腓三書26:21:「那些奉耶穌的名受洗的人被稱為基督的教會」，也大概是由於這節經文，教會在1830年創立時，復興一切之餘，顯然也應該復興這個古代教會的名字「基督的教會」(Church of Christ)。但是，在1834年5月3日，由斯密約瑟主領的一個總會當局會議中，經過祈禱之後，全體一致同意將教會名稱改為「後期聖徒教會」(Church of the Latter-day Saints)。決議後，斯密約瑟等領袖們在會議記錄上簽名 (見教會史2:62-63)。直到1838年, 教會名稱才改為「耶穌基督後期聖徒教會」，沿用至今。以下是教會史2:62-63原文：

“President Joseph Smith, Jun., was chosen moderator, and Frederick G. Williams and Oliver Cowdery were appointed clerks.After prayer, the conference proceeded to discuss the subject of names and appellations, when a motion was made by Sidney Rigdon, and seconded by Newel K. Whitney, that this Church be known hereafter by the name of "The Church of the Latter-day Saints." Remarks were made by the members, after which the motion passed by unanimous vote.

"Resolved, that this conference recommend to the conferences and churches abroad, that in making out and transmitting minutes of their proceedings, such minutes and proceedings be made out under the above title.

"Resolved, that these minutes be signed by the moderator and clerks, and published in the Evening and Morning Star. JOSEPH SMITH, JUN., Moderator. FREDERICK G. WILLIAMS, OLIVER COWDERY. Clerks. (History of the Church 2:62-63)

     問題是，在「後期聖徒教會」(Church of the Latter-day Saints)

腓三書27:8~11等啟示後，還帶領大家一起祈禱後決定違反尼腓三書27:9「我實

在告訴你們，你們是建立在我的福音上的，所以無論你們稱呼甚麼，都要用我的名

字；」？當時先知和總會當局一致同意所做的這項決定是人的決定還是神的決定？
