首款彩色電子書 日本登場
【財經新聞組綜合19日電】日本電子大廠富士通18日宣布，世界首款彩色電子書FLEPia正式在日本上市。
擁有8吋彩色螢幕的FLEPia，是由富士通旗下的富士通尖端科技和富士通研究室共同研發。富士通於2007年4月首度發表FLEPia，當時只提供企業用戶試用版。該公司說，最新版本的FLEPia在亮度和對比上提升了1.5倍，頁面重現速度提升了1.7倍。因該產品和亞馬遜（Amazon）的電子書產品Kindle性質相近，未來可能成為Kindle的強勁對手。
富士通尖端科技研發的發言人齋藤說：「消費者對FLEPia的反應非常好。」他說，FLEPia未來將在海外上市。
FLEPia 18日在線上商店正式販售，價格為9.975萬日圓（約1000美元），富士通預計明年底前售出5萬台。Kindle的價格為359美元。
FLEPia的厚度為1.25公分，比Kindle稍厚，358公克的重量也比Kindle重。但FLEPia採用Windows CE 5.0作業系統，擁有8吋彩色螢幕，解析度為1024x768，可顯示26萬種顏色。Kindle只有6吋的黑白螢幕。
FLEPia充飽電後可運作40小時，Kindle則可運作整整四天。但FLEPia同時內建無線上網和藍芽功能，4GB SD記憶卡可儲存約5000本書。

Two years ago, Fujitsu announced that it had come up with the world's first film substrate-based bendable color electronic paper featuring image memory function (snappy name, fellas). Well, now they've made something to put it in: The FLEPia (that's a bit better, but I'm still not convinced). it comes in two sizes, A4 (480 grams) and A5 (320 grams) and both are just 12mm thick.
It's easy to operate—put a 4GB memory card in the SD slot, and the content downloads as quick as you like thanks to its high-speed wireless LAN connection. There are six function buttons and a scroll key and, once charged, the battery goes for 50 hours. As well as the silver and, *cough*, pink pearl—which looks suspiciously like Zune pink to us—the FLEPia comes in white pearl. Fujitsu Frontech Starts Limited Sales of Portable Information Terminal “FLEPia”
Fujitsu Frontech Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Limited today announced the joint development and commercial introduction of samples of a ubiquitous browser, “FLEPia” that adopts color electronic paper first in the world. This product has a large display 12 mm thick, weighs 320g (A5-size model). It can run 50 hours continuously with a fully charged battery. A large amount of information (a year of newspapers, two years of weekly magazines or 5,000 volumes of books) can be stored in this terminal by using 4GB SD card (option).
Fujitsu Frontech Limited announced the development of a ubiquitous browser, “FLEPia” that adopts color electronic paper first in the world and launches domestic sales of the samples.
“FLEPia” will be displayed in “Fujitsu Forum 2007” being held on 17th and 18th May at Tokyo International Forum.
“FLEPia” realizes compactness and low power by electronic paper which can display a still image continuously without power supply. There are two types of size, A4-size (12 inch) and A5-size (8 inch). A4-size weighs 480g and A5-size weighs 320g. They measure 12mm and can run for 50 hours at most.
The contents stored to SD card (option) thorough a high speed wireless LAN can be referred “Anytime” and “Anywhere”. For example, the latest information can be downloaded at speed and available at the wireless LAN spot or a Net cafe.
The purpose of the limited sales of “FLEPia” is for the field trial of some companies who are considering business by making use of color electronic paper. Therefore it is equipped with USB mini-B connecter and a stereo speaker which is available for various applications.

[1]Visible display and color variation
There are two types of size, A4-size (12 inch) which can display largely and portable A5-size (8 inch). The resolution of both types is the XGA standard of 768 x 1024. A color display is adopted and 8 colors or 4,096 colors can be configured.
There are three color variation for the body of “FLEPia”, white pearl, pink pearl and silver.
[2] Simple operation
“FLEPia” has the large touch panel of 12 inch or 8 inch and it is easy to operate with a scroll button and six function buttons.
[3]Long operating time
Because electronic paper is adopted for a display, a still image can be displayed continuously without power supply. Power supply is necessary only for redrawing of a image. Therefore “FLEPia” can run longer than the other liquid crystal display panels. With a fully charged battery, “FLEPia” can run for 50 hours (when 3,000 pages are displayed every 1 minute on 8 colors display.)
[4]Full outside interface
High speed wireless LAN of 11/54Mbps conformed to IEEE802.11b/g, a USB mini-B connecter conformed to a USB 2.0 (480Mbps) and a SD card slot are equipped as outside interface. They can be selected according to the way to download information. Because there is also a stereo speaker on both sides, reading out of books or audio explanation of an advertisement are available.

“FLEPia” equips the Japanese version of Windows®CE5.0 by Microsoft Corporation. Web browser and e-mail are available. Because “FLEPia” can also display data of variety of applications by Microsoft Corporation such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel, referring of a document or an attachment of e-mail is available. A software keyboard and a touch-pen enable to input short sentence for e-mail.

The information is protected by 128bit of AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) and a security password with 16 characters.
Fujitsu Frontech will provide the service of searching the terminal, locking the operation and deleting the information when losing “FLEPia”.
