The Syrian Civil War (Arabic: الحرب الأهلية السورية‎), also known as the Syrian Revolution (Arabic: الثورة السورية‎), is an ongoing armed conflict taking place in Syria. The unrest began in the early spring of 2011 within the context of Arab Spring protests, with nationwide protests against President Bashar al-Assad's government, whose forces responded with violent crackdowns. The conflict gradually morphed from prominent protests to an armed rebellion after months of military sieges.

敘利亞內戰是指從2011年年初持續至今的敘利亞政府（Council of Ministers (Syria)）與敘利亞反對派之間的衝突。敘利亞的反政府示威活動於2011年1月升級，隨後反政府示威活動演變成了武裝衝突。

敘利亞的反政府示威活動產生後，敘利亞反對派要求總統巴沙爾·阿薩德下台。敘利亞反對派的武裝隨後與敘利亞政府軍及親政府的民兵組織之間爆發衝突^]。特別是在在德拉、霍姆斯、伊德利卜和哈馬等抗議的中心地區^{[9][10][11][12][13][14]}。衝突一直持續至今，聯合國報告稱敘利亞政府軍及敘利亞反對派均犯下了包括謀殺、法外處決、酷刑等侵權行為在內的戰爭罪行^[。

反對敘利亞政府的代表性政治組織為敘利亞反對派和革命力量全國聯盟和敘利亞全國委員會，敘利亞反對派的主要武裝為敘利亞自由軍和敘利亞解放軍。阿盟和海灣組織以及57國伊斯蘭世界組織相繼開除巴沙爾成員資格，並承認敘利亞反對派為合法代表。

Russia is providing “serious” training and logistical support to the Syrian army, Vladimir Putin has said, in the first public confirmation of the depth of Russia’s involvement in Syria's civil war.

Commenting on reports that Russian combat troops have been deployed to Syria, the Russian president said discussion of direct military intervention is “so far premature,” but did not rule out that such a step could be taken in future.
