I arrived Taichung the day before Lillian's wedding and found all my cousins were busy going through every detail and running errands as well, so I walked to Evergreen Laural Hotel by myself and found my aunt was left there alone.
After some small chats, I started to shoot everything I could see.(bad habit but sorta a record of my cousin's wedding day) When I was done, we sat on the sofa and chatted till they came back. At first I thought they got everything ready, but NO!
Lilly told us to put everything into place, but it was so complicated that I was mostly counfounded. It's not like that you could shovel everything into bags at will, but had to follow rules like which was placed above which, or which and which should be packed into which bundles. Take red envelopes as example, we had to put different sum of money into each one of them and then had to bear in mind when to which envelope to whom.
That night, we barely slept for two hours, then we were waken up to do the makeup. I took photos from time to time. When time was up, I got changed and expected for bridegroom's arrival. FINALLY, HE CAME!
All the people rushed out to greet him, but in Chinese traditions we couldn't let the bridegroom get in the room too early, so we gotta pose questions to him. After that, he and Lillian had to knee down and kowtow to thank them for raising Lillian so long and also bid farewell to them.
Then, we got in the cars and headed to the bridegroom's house. Before entering the house, the matchmaker had arranged some traditional Chinese rituals like bride had to walked over a stove and stamped on a piece of tile to break it. ( I don't know what these acts mean.)
They were lead to a room served to do worshipping to forefathers and gods. They lighted the incense and prayed for gods to bestow good luck on them. When the ritual was done, they had to wait in their room for Lillian's parents' arrival. The moment when her parents arrived, the married couple went downstairs taking pictures with everyone. After that, we drove to the restaurant and had a treat.
We were exhausted but excited. And what's more, I had some the chance to have a small chat with my uncle
who spends lots of time in Shanghai, and found he's cute and good at making fun of people. Also, I talked
to my cousins and aunts just old times, and it was nice.
On June7th, they are going to hold another gathering in Evergreen Laural Hotel, Taichung, , and this time they've invited more people to join the wedding party. I think it'll be fun as well.
Happy wedding, my dearest cousin, Lillian. related links (photos)
