Sometimes I will paste up some articles which I think is good. [Good things share with everybody.] And I hope you will like it. If I write something wrong, plese tell me, thank you!^^ It will take me much time (because my type speed is very slow), but I will try my best to do it. Now just follow me to see the good article. -> For a while now I've felt sympathetic toward Taiwan's foreign dometic workers1,who, because of the financial woes 2in their families behind and take on jobs, as housekeepers or caretakers for the elderly, that pay far less than what most locals would be willing to accept. Here in Taiwan, these domestic laborers are disenfranchised1,isolated2and,in many cases, on call 24/7 with just a-helf-day off each week. What's worse, their employers often seem to view them with muted suspicion3 or,in some instances outright4 disdain. ***************************** Recently,I watched a TV talk show whose theme for the day was something along the lines of "Complain About Your Foreign Maid". A panel of local celebrities spent the better part of an hour cracking jokes3 and doing impersonations5 to make fun of how incompeten and untrustworthy their Filipino and Indonesian domestic workers are. *********************************** Regardless of whether or not these individual anecdotes6 were fair or accurate, broadcasting them on national TV to get an easylaugh is precisely the sort of thing that encourages the kind of blanket stereotypes that seem prevalent on the island. ********************************** Each of us should take a long hard look at our own attitudes toward those who are often the ones cooking our food and and caring for our loved ones. Because racism, even when it's veiled as a seemingly harmless joke,is still racism 1家庭幫傭 2財務困難 3講笑話 1禠奪公權的 2被孤立的 3懷疑 4徹底的 5模仿.扮演 5軼事.趣聞 the origin is from Student Post |
