I was in US working as a software engineer in a silicon valley company when it happened. The TV reported this event from May 30 until it was blocked by China government on June 4. My US colleague asked me who taught those young students to initiate such a mass compaign against the CCP corrupted officials. My answer to them: "Mao". People from western world or even from the right wing dictatorship government Taiwan could not understand those young students who were so well organized and so brave to demonstrate against the CCP government. But I had studied Mao's theory by then so I was not surprised. It was in a way similiar to culture revolution that young generation revolted against the CCP officials with power. But this time Deng was not Mao, and Deng was a victim of culture revolution. So Deng finally used the army to crack down the demo and restore the order. It was funny to watch the KMT government to use this event as a propaganda to strengthen their anti communist legitimate position. But actually the KMT government was far from western democratic themselves (See my previous blog: The real cause of Henry Liu murder). Besides they taught their young generation by Confucianism. And blocked all the Mao works. So there was no way people in the KMT system could understand this event. I believed if young generation in Taiwan understood Mao's work then Chiang's regime would not last that long. It's sad to watch those young students who lost their life thinking they were on the justice side. But justice has always been determined by people holding the power not the idealist young generations. I wish the CCP government can come to their sense to let their people know this event and compensate the victims in the near future . |
