Work in Local NGOs
Trip code: CAM4

For the last 10 years, committed Cambodians have set up many Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to aid the reconstruction of the country. They are going through various constraints to carry on their programs due to limited and almost non-existing financial resources and as a result they often struggle to run their programs and to raise funds from international donors.

Because CBO’s themselves have limited (if any) financial resources Rustic Volunteer Travel collaborates with many local NGOs to support their efforts of community development. This program would is the perfect choice for those desiring real hands-on experience while working in developing country while simultaneously honing their personal, career-based/oriented skills pertaining to international development agencies

Project/Volunteer's Life:

Volunteers/travelers assist numerous local NGOs in different areas, including: teaching, democracy, sustainable development and human rights. Therefore, the nature of your duties varies with the type of projects. The projects are customized based on the experience and interest of the volunteers. Those with skills in development work can help by writing reports and proposals for fundraisers. Volunteers can also help by creating profitable activities for the poor and develop a program to help establish some form of stability/sustainability for the communities. Volunteers possessing skills in land-planning/distribution can offer their assistance in establishing land and fishery communities in the Pursat province. Volunteers participating in these projects must stay for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Skills and Qualification

There are no specific qualifications required for IFRE's community development projects in Cambodia. However, volunteers need to have an interest in and be enthusiastic about community works and projects. Volunteers are expected to be flexible, patient and proactive.

Meals/Accommodations:
Rustic Volunteer Travel manages room/food (consisting of local fare) for volunteers. Volunteers live with the host family and we manage a separate, simple, clean and modest room as well as local meals three times a day. Volunteer will also have 24/7 access to our office in Cambodia and mobile number of our coordinators. Our staffs also visit volunteers in each 1-2 week interval as a part of the program. Details covering living accommodations provided prior to arrival
Project Locations:

NGO projects are available in Phnom Penh (known as the “Pearl of Asia” is home to Royal Palace , Wat Phnom, National Museum , and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum) , Pursat (temples of Angkor Wat and the Tonle Sap ) and Kampot (Bokor Mountain close to the beautiful beaches and islands in the gulf of Thailand), with shops, banks & internet cafes nearby. Khmer people are the predominant ethnic group in Cambodia. Khmer or Cambodian is the language of the Khmer people and the official language of Cambodia. It is pleasure of the local people to show the volunteer around and to give the volunteer an idea of country life in Cambodia. Full of distinction from traditional culture and history of the Khmer people to modern urban infrastructure infused with traditional architectural influence, still, there exists many of the amenities you would expect from a city.

Volunteers can organize different possible excursions during and after the project to visit places of interest. There is a tourist infrastructure already in place the volunteer can use during weekends. For example: markets, internet cafes, temples, boat racing festivals, Kampot Zoo, waterfalls (rapids), kampot pepper farms, art, restaurants, beaches, hotels, and many more.
