１９７０年，英國音樂天團披頭四（The Beatles）解散．

１９７１年４月，３０歲半的前披頭四（The Beatles）成員林哥史達（Ringo Starr）推出非專輯單曲［It Dont Come Easy／這並非易事］（Apple唱片發行）．

由林哥史達創作，前披頭四成員喬治哈里遜（George Harrison）也參與歌曲的創作，但未署名。

這首歌原本的歌名是《You Gotta Pay Your Dues／你必須付出代價》。

1970年初，披頭四走向解散之際，史塔完成這首歌。此前，約翰藍儂（John Lennon）於1969年9月秘密決定離開樂團。

史塔表示，在當時尋找一首能夠確立自己身份的歌曲時，他必須“對抗……我作為受壓迫的鼓手的固有形象”，並補充道：“你不知道對抗這種形像有多難。”

在記者Bob Woffinden看來，《It Don’t Come Easy》這個標題本身就“洩露了大量信息”，揭示了史塔的脆弱感受，而其他披頭四成員作為公認的詞曲作者，都可以在樂隊之外尋求進一步的成就。
