〔Jolene〕為首支單曲，在１９７３年１０月便提前發行，

歌曲由桃莉芭頓創作，講述一位家庭主婦與一位美豔的誘惑者對峙的故事，她懷疑這位誘惑者與自己的丈夫有染。

１９８８年，芭頓在舞台上告訴觀眾，〔Jolene〕這首歌是根據一個真實的故事改編的，也是她不太喜歡經常演唱這首歌的原因。

芭頓說，在她和丈夫卡爾·迪恩（Carl Dean）剛結婚不久的時候，一位紅頭髮的銀行職員經常在迪恩的當地銀行分行和他調情。

在一次訪談中，芭頓還透露，Jolene這個名字和她的外表都取材自一位上台索取簽名的年輕歌迷。

這位歌迷很可能是Juline Whelan，她的名字經常和Jolene混淆。

芭頓為了記住這個名字，唱起了“Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene”，才有了此曲的副歌部分。

2018年，芭頓在訪談中透露，她創作〔Jolene〕和《I Will Always Love You》是同一天。
