１９７９年秋天，２１歲王子發行第二張自己創作/製作的同名大碟［Prince］（Warner Bros.唱片出版）

獲得高度評價（滾石雜誌４顆星）

首支單曲［I Wanna be Your Lover／我想成為你的愛人］

獲得市場肯定，登上美國單曲榜＃１１，副榜-靈魂榜王座 ，銷售拿到百萬金唱片 

讓王子開始受到樂壇注意。

專輯也銷售上揚　在美國銷售逾１００萬張, 成為王子首張白金唱片。

１９８０年３月，王子推出大碟第四單曲［Bambi／斑比］──但只在荷蘭與比利時與少數地區發行．

由王子譜寫，王子編曲並製作成一首搖滾／放克，編曲喧鬧，吉他演奏精彩．

王子以高細的假音奔放詮釋，營造出一股詭異的狂野．
